Ok, I know what a counter attack is in real football but when I tick the box on FM, what is the effect gonna be?
Does it make your players sit back more and attempt quick counters? In my opinion, this is the same as setting your IM to defensive, a deep defensive line and playing a quick direct style. So there must be something different it makes your team do and how effective is it?
Any feedback from people who understand this better would be much appreciated as, despite many seasons experimenting with it, I can't decide what difference it makes and what it actuallt does.
Im also never sure what this option does. According to the manual, you draw the opposition onto you to hit them on the break.
Like you said that, playing deep and closing down rarely is the equivalent of drawing them onto you. Playing quick and direct is the equivalent of hitting them on the break. So what does the checkbox do then?
i personally dont bother with playing counter-attack football anymore, its too bloody dangerous on this game, its asking for trouble. the best form of defense is sometimes pure attack, because the A.I will, always create chance after chance, meaning somewhere along they will get a goal or two
Counter attacking is counter intuitive as WWfan I think describes it.
It is best used when you are playing a defensive minded game and works well with direct passing, higher tempo and wider width.
If you are playing an attacking football then counter attacking is probably not suitible. It is best utilised when you are in your own half and assists with breaking footaball by getting the ball to the fast players such as your wingers who can attack quickly whilst the other side are still in attacking positions and are caught out trying to get back into their defensive mindset.
I cannot entirely agree. I have been having counter attack activated for a long long time and I never ever turn it off. The way I interpret the counter attack option it simply means that when a counter attack opportunity arises, that they will.
Even when using an attacking formation, the team might get a counter attack option during a game and then they will use it. I have not witnessed any harm that I could relate to anything counter attack related.
I might add that I have used a variety of teams from just under 10 nations so far with FM 07, not all of them top notch teams, in case anyone might see a relationship between these.
