It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Getting the best out of Tevez and Ashton???

Had a real problem getting goals since starting a game on the 7.02 patch. Despite tweaking individual player instructions Tevez is poor and Ashton gets no more than a 6 each game.

I play a 4-4-2 with both full backs and wide midfielders with forward arrows, one defensive midfielder with a backward arrow and Reo Coker as the other midfielder pushing on. My defensive line is stet up pretty much the same to give them all a similar outlook but obviously have the full backs pushing on a little more.

My team instructions are

Mentality Attacking
Creative Freedom Normal
Passing Style Short
Tempo Slow
Closing Down Often
Tackling Hard
Width Wide

I have all my defenders and my defensive midfielder on little creativity and my wide midfielders and other central midfielder on normal creativity, (I used to have them on high). All wide players are set to cross regularly to the target man's head (Ashton).

Ashton's instructions are : He is on right

Mentality Normal
Creative Freedom Normal
Passing Short
Closing Down Normal
Tackling Normal
Forward Runs Often
Run With Ball Rarely
Long Shots Mixed
Through balls Rarely
Cross Balls Rarely
He is set on Hold Up Ball

Tevez : He is on left

Mentality Attacking
Creative Freedom Much
Passing Short
Closing Down Normal
Tackling Normal
Forward Runs Often
Run With Ball Often
Long Shots Mixed
Through balls Often
Cross Balls Mixed

Tevez is the only player I have on "much" creativity freedom. Should I also have my wide men and middle midfielder on "much"?

The idea was that crosses are pumped up to Ashton who flicks them on for Tevez, however, the team has a real problem getting the ball to stick and the centre backs always seem to win it off Ashton. The wingers also don't cross as much as I ask them to.

One thing I do wonder is if Ashton has crosses set to his head should he have "hold up ball" ticked?

I also don't have "use target man" ticked in the instructions. Should I tick this?

Thanks in advance for help, I hope it wasn't too confusing!!

try setting through balls to often on ashton also.
this will make carlos play balls to ashton.

also try short passing, because ashton is'nt to good in the air.

Put Ashton on the left, set him as your target man and supply him to his feet or head (he isn't bad in the air at all, infact hes quite good). Have both players hold the ball up to because both have the strength and ability to link play.

Ashton:
Mentality Normal
Creative Freedom Normal
Passing Short
Closing Down Normal
Tackling Normal
Forward Runs Often
Run With Ball mixed
Long Shots Mixed
Through balls Mixed
Cross Balls Mixed
He is set on Hold Up Ball

Tevez:
Mentality a little over normal (he likes to drop deep remember)
Creative Freedom Much
Passing mixed
Closing Down high
Tackling Normal
Forward Runs Often
Run With Ball Often
Long Shots Mixed
Through balls Often
Cross Balls Mixed
He is set on Hold Up Ball

Thank you both.

Billgrant88,, Would you tick the target man box in team instructions?

I would. I can't remember exactly but his stats should be the following:

Heading 15/16
Off The Ball 15/16
Strength 16/17
Jumping 14/15
Bravery 14/15

As a target man I reckon that will be more than enough against most teams, but if he's getting marked out of the game untick or switch to Tevez and have him run onto ball or something.
