Right i've been on here a few times and now after 50 seasons (over two different games)and i feel like i'm no further forward then i was after the 1st season.

I've been playing CM and then FM since CM1 and while it has always been a pain to get it right, i have to be honest i have always done in the end and I would say 90% of the time i will get a decent team in the end and get the going for titles and cups.

And this brings me to FM2007 other than a conf win and a scottish first div title I over 50 seasons have done nothing of note and have not even managed in the prem league yet.

I get a tactic that works for a while and then seems to go pear shapped and then when it does oyou tweak away and before you know it most of the season has gone or your sacked.

I love playing this game and always have done and in previous years for me it has always been about the players you buy rather than the tactic, which has always had to be decent enough but would be good enough to get through season after season as long as you continued to get in decent players.

However this time that doesnt seem to be the case and it is happening so often that you start to lose hope.

I'm by no means a newbie to these games and would dread to think how many hours i've spent on these games but for the first time ever i'm really thinking of going back to FM2006, which while it took me over 10 seasons to make to the top, i did manage it and won things and enjoyed the game.

I'm not one for giving up and i think that 50 seasons proves this but just when i think i've got it cracked and that my team should be pushing on they turn rubbish and i'm back to square one again

anyone else having this problem or do people feel that the game is a good as ever

This is driving me nuts and i dont want to go backwards but i love playing the game and at the moment i'm getting no enjoyment out of it

maybe your playing it too much?? jsut a thought buddy nop offence meant. i think this is the best of all time and i have also been playing since the very first champ and every time ive thought the next has got better, i have never gone back to a previous one in fact i have the very first champ sitting in pretty much the same place as it was the day the second champ came out. just take a couple of weeks off and then youll be back in full swing again. I think this is the best ever FM but i's also the most frustrating, that what makes it great!

I've been playing every day since it came out and I still end everyday thinking I've learned something new and that 'I wish I new that earlier'. There are a couple of threads on these boards that really help you come to terms with problems. If you havne't read them already I suggest reading Cleon's Sheffield Utd project or more recently 'unbeaten combination of cleon & wwfan'.

Lastly, the reason this FM is great is because it's more realistic.......it's not so easy to take a conference side and win the Champions League. How many good managers get sacked in real life?

Stick with it and when you do get some success, it is all worthwhile and the best feeling yet!

The more frustrating it is the more rewarding it becomes. I'm sure wwfan's thread on how to observe and counter the AI would have helped after going through 50 seasons. Ai watches you and you watch back.

right i'll keep going but i tell you what it doesnt half get on your nerves when you have it cracked and then it goes pear shapped

and as for playing it too much, can that be possible

no..............you can never play it too much!

Like I said, read some of these posts, they will tell you why it starts to go pear shaped and hot to counter this. Report back!

In FM07, bad tactics are more heavily punished than in any previous version. It isn't about tactics per se, rather about designing a tactical system that doesn't have a major flaw. Once you have that it becomes more about player quality than anything else.

The key for someone struggling is to build a home tactic and an away tactic first and tweak from there rather than random tweaking game for game. There are a fair few theory threads available here that will get you performing well again. As gunnerfan suggested, the TT&F threads are one place to start, but Cleon's Sheffield Utd project or Dayle Wood's Tactic Building for Dummies are equally good starting points. Asmodeus's Slider Apathy is also valid. Ideally, you'd read through all and pick the method you are most comfortable with. However, the length of the threads makes that a little daunting.
