Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Man Marking

Why when the opposition play with one upfront you cant man mark them?

I select to do it then I click off my defender, click back on him and it chages it. Is there away round this as it has cost me dear.

Cheers.

It's supposed to have been fixed, but it doesn't work properly at all.

Watch for the opposition changing formation and change your marking in your own tactics to suit. It usually involves selecting 'mark specific' instead of letting the AI choose who to mark.

I lose countless goals due to the AI changing formation (before I can react) and finding that both my DCs are now man marking opposition DCs.

I usually stick to zonal now.

I don't even know if that is the problem you are having, but it's something to watch out for.

HectorSpector thanks for that.

I thought it was just my computer, but how annoying is it really? I get yhe exact problem, I usually do zonal and tight marking aswell.

If you go on opposition instructions and man mark that loan striker, do you have to stick someone on him or is it contridicting (however you spell that) yourself.

Sorry for the English.

I just don't trust generic man marking to do the job right. I would always set one DC to mark the specific striker, and have the other on zonal. I'm always sitting on the formations screen out with the highlights, just to watch for any changes, or players swapping position, because you need to then counter this manually too. You really shouldn't have to do this, it's terrible.

I think man marking was fixed in the 7.0.1 patch. Not too sure though.

It was supposed to be, but I still notice problems with it in 7.0.2.

If you set one of your Central Deffenders to specifically to man mark one of the opposition Strikers, then you encounter the "out of position" problem when the strikers switch positions. I was thinking that one could then have one's CDs swap position so when the opposition strikers switch position you could keep your CD marking the right Striker. Dosen't work like that though, which is a shame...

If your DC is man marking (non specific) a striker that gets substituted, he will end up marking

a. no one

b. an opposite DC

Happens all the time with formation changes too. Still prevalent after the 7.0.1 patch.

You can test it by going to the tactics screen during the match and seeing what the default choice for marking under the 'specific' section is.
