And there I was thinking how well my game was going with Shrewsbury Town. Top of the League after 25 games and cruising when wham, three defeats on the spin using the same tactics.
Anyone else been through this and have any advice on how to get back to winning ways?
I play attacking football with a 4-4-2 formation with player mentalities ranging from 14 to 20. Also a high defensive line lookig to catch the opposition offside. This season, I've been using this tactic for home and away as it's been working. My defenders passing setting is on the first notch of direct, with my midfielders two to three notches shorter and stikers two to three notches shorter than the midfield. I sometimes tweak this if playing on a short pitch or if my passing doesn't look good.
The three games I lost were away to Gillingham (Lost 2-1), home to Rochdale (Lost 0-3!) and away to Northampton (Lost 2-1). I was only a strong favorite in the home game against Rochdale as my home form has been superb.
I've been thinking about it overnight (sad isn't it?) and here are my thoughts.
In the first loss against Gillingham I went down to ten men early on. Can't remember if I was already one down when he was sent off, but I was two down at half time. At half time I realised that I didn't have the settings as I thought which probably didn't help. Second half I stormed back, scoring one goal and almost getting an equaliser but just came up short. So my conclusion to this game was the sending off and not having the setiings I thought I had in the first half.
The second loss at home to Rochdale is a complete mystery seeing that my home record has been impeccable with just one loss previously. I got competely outplayed. Rochdale ran me ragged! Normally my passing percentage and possession is really high but I got completely battered!
In the third defeat away to Northampton I was slight underdog but took the lead to my relief. Perhaps I should have eased back a bit but kept attacking as I have all season only to concede an equaliser and then lose out to a goal in the second half.
Another factor that I think hasn't helped is having to play a lot of games in a short space and with injuries and suspensions etc. so I've had to rotate a bit. I have a very young team and the majority don't handle pressure to well, which might account for me missing out in the play offs last season with an uncharacteristic performance.
I find that almost all teams play defensive counter attack against me although Rochdale seemed to attack me big time! My defence, which did have the best record in the League up to now, seems to have collapsed with players all playing badly. One of my defenders got a rating of 4!
I don't generally set up a target man unless I see one of my strikers having some success against his opponent in the game. I have no playmaker.
One thing I'm going to try in my next game is playing my oldest player Drummond, who has been out injured for quite a while. I have played him in a couple of reserve games to get him fit again. Maybe his experience can steady the ship and he always seemed to perform well anyway before getting injured. He is my captain as well.
This frequently happens I don't understand it. Your tactic is BRILLIANT in one league, and then you move up and it stops working completely. If you figure it out, then you're a genius.
I have a tactic that works balls out in the Romanian, English Conference, and Russian Leagues, and then sucks everywhere.
It worked one season in the German league, and then fizzled after that.
The AI isn't "Figuring" these tactics out, I don't understand why they stop working, it's SO frustrating as to make the game unfun.
