I am in June 2010 with Liverpool. I'm thinking of trying out a 442 diamond formation, something like

-----------Reina------------
Alves---Breno--Agger--Marcelo
-----------Lucas-------------
---Gerrard---------????------
----------- Aguero-----------
--------Torres----Bojan------

Any suggestions for my ML/MC? I reckon he needs to be able to function in either of these positions, and have good fitness, stamina, passing, and reasonable pace, marking and tackling.

Omar Esparza although not sure if he'll be good enough to Liverpool. Gareth Barry is another though he'll be 29 or so.

Arturo Vidal is worth a look. What about that chap at Palermo - Giulio Migli(something)? Might be worth a look. If I remember correctly, he had good stats.

Or you can just move Lucas to that position and put Mascherano (if you still have him) as DM. Or buy Miguel Veloso for DM.

I have Mascherano, Alonso and Pirlo as other options for the DM position so I'm well covered there. Your suggestion of using Lucas as left sided MC is as cunning as a weasel with a degree in cunning from Oxford University.

I can also use Kewell as backup.
