As far as I always understood, it was the ratio of goals for/against. I was playing in a 5 a side tournament in 1974 when we qualified for the semis on that basis. We lost in the final unfortunately.

Goal difference is referred as Goal average here in Catalonia. Hence why I said that even though now that I think of it it's clear it doesn't make sense.

Church  1974 was a very good year.

Season 2008/09: English League One, Swindon Town

Despite going up the wage budget stays very much the same, so we have to do some malabarisms to accomodate the 6 new guys into our reduced wage bill (An irish DR, an english 18yo D/DM C, three scots, a SW/DC, MLC and a MC, and a Welsh, AMC).

However, the main player of the season will be our Brazilian playmaker, closely followed by a new welsh AMC and a Scottish MLC we brought in for peanuts. But our 16 men first team is rather thin on some positions and we suffer when we have some players injured/banned.

The prolific first 23 matches of our two strikers are followed by a bad last 23, in which only the input of some loanee striker from Shef Wed and some lucky long range shots by our midfielders see us grab good points.

The turnpoint (from good to mediocre) in our form is the FA Cup 4th round fixture, in which our reserves get humped 4-0 by a first string Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The 1.200k gate receipts are handy, but our form never recovers.

Still, Hull and Bradford do get as few points as we do and only Sheffield Wednesday can leapfrog us in the last 10 matches of the season. We end second, amassing a fantastic 89 points with a measly 59 goals but only conceeding 26 in all the league.

English League One: P 46 W 25 D 14 L 7.
FA Cup: 4th Round (lost to Arsenal).
League Cup: 1st Round (lost to Hull).
Vans Suck Arse: South Semifinals (lost to Hull).

Liverpool () win the Premiership, breaking the Arsenal monopoly after 6 season of complete dominance by the Wenger boys.
Manchester Utd. secure Champions League when Shrek scores a goal in a counter during the extended time. 1-0 against Juve. This victory ensures the complete European dominance by english teams, as the UCL has an English winner for the last 5 seasons (Arsenalx2, United x2 and Liverpool ()x1).
Sevilla win Uefa on a tight match against local rivals Betis.

Of the 10 lads we had promoted from Swindon's youth system we keep 4. Although they look average, they are quite young and can improve. Specially now that the board has improved our training facilities and we do have a Youth Academy...

Season 2009/10: English Championship, Swindon Town.

We're given 1.375m GBP for signings and a nice 10k increase in the weekly wage budget to reach 36k/week. With that and the selling of some reserves we manage to bring in 8 new players for a 1.7 m GBP combined fee. We still are below the allowed budget.

We promote one 17 yo DC from U18s to the first team, as he is being monitored by some top notch teams and even AC Milan asks us if we are keen on selling him. Nope, but thanks for trying!!! Another 17 yo lad, an AM LC, is also being monitored by some clubs, Liverpool () amongst them.

Two strikers are loaned in for the season. They do their job, although it is clear that our strikeforce needs some permanent bolstering.

Everton, Blackburn and Sunderland set on an early fight for the 2 promotion spots. One of them must play the play-offs and it is Sunderland. Our ability to put some real displays on the road makes us meet them at Play-Off time.

Cups and home form sucked arse.

League: English Championship: 6th. P 46 W 18 D 17 L 11 GF 46 GA 33 PTS 71
Play-offs: Semis Sunderland: Agg 1-2 (H 1-2, A 1-0).
League Cup: 1st Round defeat to Bristol Rovers (A 0-1).
FA Cup: 4th Round defeat to Manchester City (A 0-3).

Elsewhere:
-Transfers:
World Transfer record is broken when Chelsea splash 62m GBP for an AM RC Jock from Man Utd. This deal is 11m higher than the last record (a spanish AMR who moved from Betis to Madrid 5 seasons ago).

-Brass:
Arsenal win the Premiership in a tight race with a ressurected Chelsea side.
Manchester Utd win the FA Cup, 2-1 after extra time against Chelsea.
Inter break English dominacy of the UCL and get rid of Roma after Inter's Scottish ex-Hearts keeper gets a deserved MoM for stopping 3 penalties and 8 of Roma's 9 shots on target during the match.
Uefa Cup is also Italian. Juve dispose of Deportivo 2-0 in what clearly is a deceiptive scoreline, as the Galician side deserved better luck.
WC 2010 is held in South Africa: Colombia 1-0 Nigeria in the final  Poofland crash and burn at the Group Stage.

I was doing one of the schedduled complete reinstalls of my whole system and it looks as if I forgot to back up my documents folder...

Bah... It was getting boring anyway.

Frank has already chosen my next destiny: Belarus, Bereza. Russia and Ukraine added for spice, though I won't update this one.
