I like the idea of having to play 3 to 5 seasons before beginning the update that way some investment has been put in by the writer. I ignore most of them until I see alot of replies, which usually signifies the update has become off topic drivel so I can feel at home. |

Same sentiment as my fellow Aussie. I don't read them until, they are on page 2. It is a way for new fella's to make thier debut, but hell you don't need an update thread to do that
Burn them I say. Hated them before, hate them now.

Personally I like the way it is in the hut. If you don't like updates you can skip that entire part of the forum.
That said I am a stern follower of a 3-5 season rule before starting updates.

That's the problem with sticky threads. I keep forgetting to check if there has been new posts. I was reading over this and had two ideas. Well, one has already been mentioned which seems pretty popular.
My other idea was some kind of thread request or credit idea, which would have been difficult to track. I was that desperate though to try and get this forum cleaned up I would have written a small VB program to help us out with keeping track. I didn't think too much about the details.
I think this "x amount of seasons before starting an update" sounds the best idea for now.

The only arguement for updates, appears to be as a way for newbies to integrate themselves into the forum.
However, the majority seem to post exclusively in their own update thread. Are they here because they like the LLaMa way or is the forum just a place to tell their stories? People who tend to stick around (in my brief experience) aren't those who do updates (yeah, I know that I do one).
I know that there's always a knee-jerk response to banning something (everyone signs any petition etc) but the forum does seem to have become updates only. Most regulars seem to be complaining, so will anything (outright banning to some limitations) be done?
Just remembered the other reason why people like them. Keeps the marshmallow sales up.

How would that work? And i guess it's something that should be monitored by a mod (i.e maybe a regular could help out, if anyone's interested that is)?
Normally, i'd be all for banishing updates to hell for all eternity, but a minimum of 4 or 5 seasons played sounds like a good measure to me.

Well. I didn't really sit around and think about it for too long, but credits could be built up from your registration date, activity in LLM, sucessful updates in the past. So many credits needed to start an update. If you start another then you lose credits and will need to build them up by having a sucessful update thread or time in the forum.
Without suffecient credit, any new updates will be closed. It would be a vb progran that stores usernames and the credits they have and would be able to add/remove credits and users.
It would need a lot of ironing out and I thnk the 3-5 seasons played rule is my preferred at the moment.
