In my experience, however, a 9 is very rare, so I may decide on defining extraordianry as 8+ rather than 7+ Thanks for your input..

Well, if an opposition player scores a hat-trick, or gets a straight 10 (that would be their keeper, ususally), i will shortlist him and send my scout over. However, a 7 or a 8 tells me nothing in particular.

I don't fully understand your second remark, and I don't seem to able to find it in the guideline sticky topic. What do you mean? Do I need to play against a player for a minimum of 4 times before I can sign them or send my scouts out to look at them? Apart from the logic of this approach, there's a pratical problem: how do you keep count of the number of matches you've watched each player play?

I think it's mentioned somewhere in the thread, look more carefully. The idea of it is that what you see on key highlights isn't always reflective of a certain player's match rating. So, if a player keeps running rings around your defence his match rating could well be a 5, although you think otherwise by what you see. So, if that player keeps attracting your attention despite his low rating, you're encouraged to shortlist him and scout him. Hope this makes sense, it's my own interpretation of the guideline.

Your example sounds good to me, but it depends how much the player's already being paid. Obviously he can take it or leave it, but your original question was about taking advantage of a bug that means he can't leave it

Oops, i've kind of messed the guidelines up :o

It can be argued that if you play against another Team twice in a season (four times in Scotland) that you would gain enough knowledge of players in that Team through those meetings or watching how the players do in the League against other Clubs to make a bid for them without relying on a Scout report.
So there. Personnally, i would still send a scout around before signing him, but that's just me.

That would be me too, Kfoolmoon. I always have a scout do a last check upon a player before I sign them, although I do not really rate their professionalism, so I have been known to sign "fringe players" who turned out to be rather good buys..

As most others in here, I wouldn't buy anybody unless he's been scouted at least once. If somebody has had a stormer against me, I will send a scout to check him out, especially if he's in a position I feel could use strenghtening. It could be supergoalies, wingers that send my defence up on the stands, midfielders that fire home 30-yarders or some other nutjob driving me mad.

Contracts have to be renegotiated from time to time, but unless the player is very young it's usually hard to get them on lower wages anyway. It's not realistic that a player signs 5 contracts a month, so that's out of the question.

About contracts... I usually offer lower contracts to players if I take over a club in debt and with a huge wage bill overflow. I think it is realistic to say to your players: "Look, the club is in deep shyte. We are so and so in red and we have to lower our wage bill to survive. If we do not, the club will go bankrupt. We will offer new contracts with lower wages to you. The rest depends on you."
I've actually seen it happen here in Slovenia.

I do exactly the same as kovalenkov,if they refuse new contract,it's out the door they go,thats if anybody else is daft enough to buy 'em
As long as you are not offering reduced contracts every month or so then I think you are ok.the only other time I will offer a contract is when I get a message that the players contract will expire soon

I have been playing lower leagues with a non-cheating mentality with the earlier versions but haven`t ventured to this little community before and my 2005 version is still in the mail. Anyway, I`d think there are no rules you should follow, just do what you think would be possible in reality. I don`t find it unrealistic to offer lower wages to some players if the wage budget is too small but I focus on possible underperforming people with higher-than-average wages only. When hiring a player I migth offer him a lower wage, for instance if he is moving down a league or two after not finding his place in the team. I tend to make clauses that negate the effect.

A related question: Although I haven`t used exactly your methods in scouting I also buy mainly scouted players and this has made my shortlist quite large and some of the players have been scouted years ago. Is there an option to re-scout the whole shortlist or should I just manually scout the players who have been there for the longest time?
