Default Are superkeepers a regional phenomenon?

Does the probability of encountering a superkeeper change according to your location?

I recently moved from Portugal, where I had spent 11 seasons without ever having seen an obvious superkeeper, to England, where I have seen at least three in 20-some games.

Anyone else experienced a similar disparity?

I have yet to see one in Sweden/Norway. Perhaps it's an English thing?

Superkeeper is a myth in FM created by paranoid managers.

It's probably noticable currently as the standard of GKs is a lot higher in England than in the Portugese leagues.

The flaw in your argument is that I am not paranoid. They really are out to get me

Seriously, the standard of goalkeeping in general throughout my game has been pretty good. If anything the Portuguese goalkeepers have been better (I even contemplated importing my #1 from Maia because I found the incumbent at Norwich, who has 8 international caps, unreliable).

I don't in general think superkeepers are a big issue, but it struck me, playing against a side I should beat easily, with a hot SC, in a game I dominated 16 shots to 1, that there may be something in those claims.

The opposition keeper, who had been leaking goals like it was going out of fashion, made two world-class saves inside the first three minutes, and it didn't improve from there.

Once you put down to one of those things, but it has happened two or three times now. I'm not sure what else to put it down to.

I should add that I have seen one-sided games in Portugal, in which a good goalkeeper has single-handedly saved his team a drubbing, but it always seemed contextually sound, i.e. he was already good, in form, my strikers were in a slump and didn't make the best shots.

It's been the context that's missing in England thus far.

I'm going to tell you the very same thing I always said in 03/04: Superkeepers are an invention which only solidifies when certain attacking tactics clash with certain defensive tactics and certain goalkeeper individual instructions (may the keeper have high enough numbers to display as he's asked)...

Obviously, it's more noticeable as you go up to the top flight levels, as the keepers there tend to be of better quality.

That's as far as I can go without having to kill you lot afterwards for tactical tipping. :p :mafia:

So are those instructions peculiar to particular leagues?

That's what I was wondering in the first place. Have you seen it in multiple leagues or just particular ones?

I played 3 seasons in the Portuguese superleague without ever having this cross my mind, yet in a half season in the English Championship it has. By your argument, Jordi, I should have seen it more in the PSL as it had higher quality goalkeepers.

perhaps not, the teams there may have favoured formations or instructions that aren't part of the superkeeper combination when compared to the Championship?

I'm just guessing here as I haven't managed more than a couple of months outside the UK

Dunno.

Remember it was my keeper you lot kept tagging as superkeeper? :p

I don't suffer superkeepers, I nurture them.
