So it begins.

Pro Vercelli, from the northern region of what is essentially the Italian fourth division - C2/A.

PV were 7 times champions of Italy either side of WW1, however success is now deemed to be staying up.

The squad is large - full of youngsters likely never to make it at this or any higher level. My judgement of this talent, and that of my coaches will be needed quickly to trim a huge wage bill which is already running at 50% over capacity

Season 2004/05: Part 1

The Serie C Cup brings a shocking introduction to the difficulty of the task ahead. Expectations were low due to being placed in a group with four teams from Serie C1.

Four drubbings later (including 8-1 and 6-0 :eek and doubts were creeping in with regard to the managers tactical nous.

Thankfully things have calmed down slightly in recent weeks despite major tinkering with personnel and tweaking of tactics - thanks largely to a bit of luck (a couple of back to back wins were inspired by shots from 50 yards out with the keeper nowhere to be seen).

This leaves the glorious Pro one place shy of the safety of 13th place. Currently we sit 14th and in the "playout" zone - thanks to a late home defeat in our last game by Pro Sesto.

I second that. Did have a crack at Italian LLM way back on CM3. Good fun.

Good luck, i've tried taking teams from C2, and as soon as I get into Serie B, I get sacked for a bad start.

Saying that I did rescue near bankrupt Bari from C2 to Serie B over 4 seasons, before moving back to England

I have noticed that quite a few of C2 and C1 teams like to have their keepers take free-kicks and penalties. (The latter I do for my Woking save)

Season 2004/05: Part 2

Cheers for all the replies. Not made much progress recently.

Got through to the end of January but form is a little patchy. We've stopped drawing matches which had become a worrying trend, and have recently tended to win one the lose the next. Its inconsistent, but at least we are picking up points a bit more regularly

I've taken a look at improving the squad a bit - as it seems strong in some areas and incredibly thin in others. The culling of the weaker players continues - with one useless high earner getting the boot through mutual agreement

The scouts aren't helping as they are only identifying players who are well out of my range. Unfortunately their contracts are too long for me to be able to afford to sack them!
