Ensured club's (sic)in non-selected division within a selected nation don't hog all the regen players.
Does this alter the view that ticking the 'retain players' boxes is a no-no?
I'm asking because I'm thinking of setting up a career campaign in Asia. My intension is to load up all the Asian leagues and see how many seasons it takes me to accept job offers in each of the playable nations. However I'd like to retain players from all the Asian nations, i.e. the likes of Nepal, Laos, Kryzgstan etc. Realistically, labourers from such nations often migrate to get work in the construction industry etc. and might end up playing part-time football.
What do you think? Does the 'fix' remove the objection to using this function or not?
If you have a UK and Ireland game going and retain Slovenia, then you end up with hundreds of kovalenkovs in every squad...not a happy proposition
The way I see it, that's not realistic.
I do, however, think that if you play a Home Nations game with Poofland and Jockland selected there's less reason why you couldn't retain Sheepland and Paddyland, because Irish and Welsh players often migrate to England to ply their trade.
I still feel that if you have a smaller than "huge" database selected for Poofland and Jockland that the Welsh and Irish would outnumber the home players (Small Db against "retain all players"), but it's reasonable to suggest that a Huge Db and retain Sheepland and Paddyland would effectively balance it out.
As for the Asian Nations, that's too complicated for me to work out

And I missed my chance to pick on you in that other thread
Retain players is a big no-no for me. No matter what.
As some of the regulars know I did use this function in the past and I'm using it with FM2005 too.
If you do it reasonable just to accomplish a region (like starting a game in Eastern Europe with 5 nations and also retaining players from Romania and Poland) it works very well, in my opinion.

That's how I'm thinking Kubi -as I said I'm thinking along the lines of loading up the Asian leagues and retaining players from the non-playable Asian nations ONLY.
But I'd like a reasoned debate within the LLaMa community here as to the issues surrounding this, post-patch. I don't want any 'do what you like but don't come here posting' type response, and if the community can explain why it may still lead to an unbalanced game I'll welcome and accept their reasoning. Right now I can't see any anti-LLaMa ethic flaws here.
There's never been an ethical objection, Andy, just a realism one.
SI go to great lengths to ensure the Db's are balanced, and retaining players upsets this balance.
If you think it's realistic and playable to use the feature as you described go ahead and do it.
Retaining players puts all the players from a Nation into the game, Db's smaller than Huge omit players, so it stands to reason there'll be a mismatch.

Right, can we think this one through Ian.
If I retain all the players with ASIAN nationalities and load up only ASIAN leagues the imbalance will be a higher proportion of Asian players in my game.
If I'm only moving around (as a manager)Asian nations/clubs I'm not sure how, in terms of realism, the lower proportion of European/American/African players would affect my game. Maybe in the long term Asian nations would do better in the World Cup but that wouldn't affect me as an Asian LLaMa.
I totally understand the issue when talking about having eg the Slovenian players retained with British leagues loaded, but what about the scenario I'm painting here?
