Unless you're in Canada, where "sticking the nut on..." means something completely different |

Woah, since when was "geezer" an insult. As far as I have known it's along the lines of mate. I know the way I post has been over the top at times (like 12/13 threads with me as the last word, but that has been cut down a lot.
On the way I treat people, I don't intend on insulting people, especially after the new abuse guidelines are in place, but it seems that my sarcasm is peeing prople off.
If anyone could point out when I have insulted or ****ed some-one off, i'll be gratefull enough to apologise.

OK. I've looked up the definition of geezer, and it means a totally different thing to what I thought.
Its meanings - A queer old fellow; an old chap; an old woman.
I will try to refrain from using it from now on.
You learn something everyday.

Just got back from the pub, where I was having a drink with 8 people who teach English as a foreign language. I mentioned this "geezer" being an offensive thing and they all said that this was incorrect in British English; although it may have different connotations in other waters.
To quote: "It's just a slang word with no positive or negative meaning especially when used in London". They even teach it as a synonym for man/bloke etc to their students.

| Exactly as I thought. Funilly enought I live in North East Surrey, which is close enough to London as you can get without actually being in London, or the Greater London area.

But remember we post on a international stage and words we use may mean very different things to others.
