The Story of Ashton United

As an aside, I'm a relatively new member, been lurking for ages, only been playing FM05 for about two weeks, though I had CM4 before that. I'm not the best football tactician, nor the smartest football fan around (in fact, I know relatively little), but this game is addicting as hell, and I know enough about the game to somewhat barely slightly ish maybe know what I could be doing if I tried hard enough to think about possibly hoping it to inch that way. Or something. Point is, I may not have the best story, the most successful story, or even the most 'worthy' story, but I do hope I have a bit of fun under the general guidelines of LLM play.

Without further ado, I picked Ashton United of England, Conference North. I picked them because they're called 'United'. Why am I typing like a kindergartner? No clue.

Here goes...

11.7.2004
The Ashton United board of directors, consisting of the local bartender, waitress, and the groundskeeper of Surrey Street, have named 29-year-old unkown Stuart Thomas (henceforth known as Mr T) from Liverpool as their club manager. The decision was met with cautious optimism from all 3 of the team's supporters, and we're expected to "fight bravely against relegation". That sounds nice.

The club looks horrible. My strikers could do a bit of damage on a good day, though both are relatively young. My keeper is actually the strongest part of the club, possessing fairly decent stats for a player for a club this far down the barrell in terms of anything. He actually played for Harrogate Town in Conference North, so this is quite the promotion for him. My defense is somewhat pitiful, definately need to pick up another man or two there. And the midfield. Ah, the lovely midfield, the backbone of any team. Is broken. In four seperate places. God help the keeper with the team he has in front of him.

I'm going to start out without naming a formation, depending how the first couple games go, we'll see what happens. Also looking for an extra defender, could go to a nah i won't name tactics in llm, or possibly even a nah forget it.

Well, through one game the no naming tactics is looking alright...we'll see how it holds up.

Bloddy hell. All this tactic talk. I nearly spilt my ready break down me top.

There will be none of this discussion in the LLM forum. If you have lurked for a while then you should have at least read the rules on no tipping, tactic talk, updating after three seasons and updates being short posts on how you do.

If it's stories you want then head over to the FM stories forum.

Ruckus, same goes to you. I am sure you just wanted to help, but I don't think you know what forum you are in.
