Armed with a patched WWSM08, a sense of adventure, and a desire to travel, I pack my bags and approach Frank for directions on where to begin my campaign for mediocrity. He sends me to Willebroek in Belgium, a country I've never visited either in FM or in real life.
2007-08 season
Board wants us to establish ourselves in the 3rd division at the end of the two year plan and to enjoy the cup experience. The media expect us to finish 14th out of 16.
This was a season of the "haves" and the "have nots." Sixteen teams in the league. The top eight teams were competing for play-off sports. The bottom eight were fighting to avoid the drop. We were in the bottom eight. Not safe until the second to last match, we end up the best of the "have nots." I guess we enjoyed the cup experience; we didn't win a game though. Leading scorer was a crafty veteran with 16 goals. We sprang a leak in the bankbook though due completely to salaries out of control. (100,000 for a part time player!?!).

2008-09 Season
Board wants us to establish ourselves in the 3rd division and to win a cup game. The media expect us to finish 9th.
Don't bring in many players due to the budget, and try to slash payroll. Media had us pegged eexactly right. Unlike the year before we are never a relegation contendor, but never come close to even threatening a playoff spot. Another 9th place finish; 3 points better than the year before. We did manage to win two cup games, and turn a nice profit for the year. The bank account is still dangerously overdrawn though. Crafty veteran again leads us in goals, this time only with 12 though.
2009-10 Season
Board expects us to avoid relegation. Media expectation is 14th.
Neither the Board nor the media expect much from us this year, and I can't say that I blame them. I cut payroll yet again in an effort to control costs; down to less than 40% of the wage budget. Then my scout turns up several former division 2 players willing to play in the 3rd division for the last contract of their careers, and three second division youngsters available for loan. I also decide to change my tactics up a little bit and abandon the 4-3-3 I had been using for something that produced a little more stability.
And it worked. We win our first 9 out of the gate and are unbeaten and ten points clear at the top of the table by the Christmas break. We cool off a little in the second half but not much. Clinch the Championship with two games to go. Crafty veteran stil leads us in scoring - this time with 26! Increased attendance puts us almost in positive figures.
Does his history show him playing for PSV, Anderlecht, Sheffield Wednesday and Aston Villa?
If it's the guy I'm thinking about, you're lucky, because he barely plays (or scores) for them in real life. He's generally too busy modelling for Bikkembergs and giving his "professional opinion" in football shows on the commercial networks.
