my scout has just come back with a player called okaka.

he has 7 silver stars for CA but only 3 gold stars for PA.

is this how it should be?

Gold stars are better than silver stars. I think if you mouse-over the stars it explains

yeah it says something about some young players having silver stars and being compared to some other player.
but it doesn't say gold is better than silver. i suppose thinking about it it is obvious but it is slightly confusing if you consider the potential prospect of a player having 7 silver stars for CA and 1 gold star for PA.

AFAIK silver stars compare youth players, whilst gold stars compare senior players

just had a look at my scout whos scouting players who are no more than 18 years old, the three teenagers all have silver stars.

everyone over teenage years have gold stars.
although why it's showing over teenagers when i specifically asked for players no more than 18 years old i don't know.

People who haven't played OOTP aren't as used to stars as people who have played OOTP are.

Stars compare one player to other. The question is, what is the group of player the comparison is being drawn to?

In FM, from what I understand, gold stars compare the player you're looking at to other players on your team. A long row of gold stars means he's the best your side has to offer. A long row of gold stars for a player you don't own means he's better than most on your side.

I've seen people complaining that they are having problems winning, even though their side is filled with players with lots of stars. Just because you see a long row on your squad screen doesn't mean the players are any good compared to others in your competition, just that they're the best you have to offer up to the slaughter...

Silver stars are different from OOTP ... they compare to other players' CA in the same age group. It has nothing to do with PA. A player with a lot of silver stars just means he's very good for a U18, not that he will be any good in the future.
