A few thoughts about where the game can get better (not a rant)
Now, I will readily admit to being completely addicted to FM, for better or worse. Even with all the great stuff in the game I do believe there are areas where SI can surely improve the game.
The first of these areas is covering for injured players
This is something I find of great importance, even to the point of calling it my biggest issue with the match engine. Just tonight I was playing against Liverpool when Danny Simpson got injured after 94 minutes. Now, I was 2-1 ahead and they had gone 4-2-4. This situation should not be such a big problem, Fletcher drops from RM and Rooney or Tevez drops to RM. Not in the game, though. Fletcher keeps his position and Liverpool duly fashion a chance through the vacant RB position. This is, in my opinion, a huge flaw as we can not manually change this, the changes wouldn't take effect soon enough for them to do anything.
Now, the second part I think could do with a bit more depth is Transfer clauses
This is a part of the game I would really like to see improved. Now, I have no idea whether what I'm about to say is realistic or just from the media but I think a few transfer offer clauses should be included. When United bought Rooney it was said that they paid X amount upfront and x amount after 12 (or 24 or both) months. Not a monthly installment, lump sum after a year. This can make a difference, no doubt.
Example, Say I want to buy a player that doesn't stretch my budget that much but puts the balance in the red. Paying 20 million after a year when I've had my league bonus paid and, hopefully, continental bonus as well would not put me in the red. Going maybe up to 10-14 million down has an effect. I've had my chairman accept a 26 million Euro bid for Ferdinand when I've been to reject 40 million Euro bids when I've been in the black. I think the difference is quite obvious, sometimes you would want to pay after the year instead of during. Of course, the other club might not like that.
Also, to keep quoting what I've heard from the Rooney transfer, it included bonus payments to Everton for when United won titles and then loyalty clauses. They meant that United pay Everton some money for Rooney extending his United contract. I won't guarantee these are used in real life, just that I heard they were included and as such I would surely like them there.
Another point on clauses, why can't we offer X amount after 10 league games and another X amount after 20? I remember on FM 07 United had to pay Spurs some money after at least 3 different league landmarks.
Also, just as an aside, Transfer offersรพ
More to the point, when I offer a player to clubs, I find to many come back with "asking price too high" instead of offering something. I offer Dong for 7.5 million Euro and eventually sell him for 6 after offering him at increasingly lowering prices. Now, why doesn't the club say "we will offer 6 million, no more" when I offer him out eventually? They want him but if I don't offer him again I find they usually don't make an offer by themselves. That said, I find the transfer system hugely improved apart from this issue.
I think that is all I can remember right now, if you read all this, I salute you!
Now, let's keep this civil and as gripeless as we can. And that's assuming anyone reads and responds
