As per the thread title I have started editing the manager comments files to change the wording and add some new ones in.
First a request to this board. There are a lot of different circumstances and it will be difficult for one person to come up with original news items for each one. If you have manager to manager comments you would like to see implemented, can you post them here.
To give you all an idea of where I am heading with this here are some samples comments from pre-season (names are variable):
- State the importance of playing against top quality opposition like Real Madrid
- Tell Football365.com that you're side is shaping up better than Gillingham's
- Tell fans you may experiment with the side against Gillingham
- Tell Ronnie Jepson you hope Gillingham make the upcoming friendly a good run out for your side
- Point out that Portsmouth fans expect Gillingham to field a full strength team and so does your board
- Assure fans that you intend to field a first choice line-up as Gillingham should not be taken lightly
- Predict a good game against Gillingham
- Tell Ronnie Jepson that you look forward to picking his brain over a glass of wine after the match
...and a sample news item from 'Tell fans you may experiment...'
Headline - Last chance for second string failures
Portsmouth look set to give an opportunity to several fringe players as [manager] seeks to protect his star players. [manager surname] sees the friendly against Gillingham as no more than a fitness boost for his squad players and is showing a willingness to experiment with his formation and personnel.
The xx year old Fratton Park boss has denied that he is looking to offload certain squad members.
...the press misrepresentation is deliberate, but hopefull more obvious than the default comments.
Second, a request to SI - is it possible to get some guidelines on how the comments work. For example, I've got comments for 'Manager at big club' that don't appear when playing Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly.
1. What constitutes a big/small club and is it dependant on division, competition or stage of season?
2. Do neutral comments only appear in response to other comments?
3. What effects managers responding to your comments? e.g. sometimes they respond, sometimes they don't
4. Why are comments not appearing when type of comment is set to pre-season friendly, but it works fine when stage of season is set as pre-season?
5. Does a comment have to have exactly the same properties as the initial comment to be used as a response?
6. Are there any rules that I should be aware of?
