Default DB Update for managing in Holland (more realistically)

Hi everyone,

Normally I don't post on forums, but I have made a data update which I have worked too hard on to just keep for myself. Besides information from various sources, I used a lot of info from the SI data issues threads, and I used virtually all of the info in this particular thread.

The most important goal of this data update was to make playing in the Netherlands more realistic. This means more realistic team formations, players having positions they are being used in in practice, and an almost true to life first XI for a lot of Dutch teams. I hope the researchers aren't offended now, you did great work. I just touched the db up a little in an attempt to make the game feel more real.

The game is perfectly playable with this data update, but I would like to refine it in the future. So please, if you check out this update, e-mail me your feedback. My e-mail address is:

ruudsalternatief@hotmail.com

I hope people will enjoy this update, good luck managing!

P.S. Here is some info on how I approached things:

To change player positions, I looked at the positions they were playing in (at least this season). For example, if someone has played at the right back postion for 75% of the matches, I would leave it at/or change it to natural or accomplished at RB. If he played LB in the other 25% of the games, I would make him at least competent at that positions, if that hadn't already been done. I also googled a lot of players to look up their positions etc.

To change the preferred formations of managers, I looked at the formations they have been using lately. I probably won't have everything completely correct, but it seems pretty accurate to me. By the way, I also added preferred formations for a lot of other (like unattached) Dutch managers. This probably won't be completely correct, but at least there is an improved chance of Dutch teams playing in a 433 formation (with DM or AM C). One note on Van Gaal, in the game he will play 433, I didn't change his preferred formation to 422. Unfortunately the AI Van Gaal does seem to think he has a quality left striker in the squad, so he doesn't change his formation in the game.

To make sure the first XI's of the teams were more accurate, I tweaked the CA and/or reputations of certain players. I tried not to do a lot of drastic things, that's probably the reason I couldn't make some experienced players like Cocu and Arveladze really appreciated by their AI managers. Also, whatever I tried, somehow Gentenaar would be the Ajax GK, with Stekelenburg as his stand in.

And to make the final league positions for the teams more realistic, I again tweaked some things, such as club reputation, finances, manager CA and overall CA of the squad. Please note that I have been careful with changing these things.

My test results do not show the DB to have unbalanced Dutch leagues and players. Most of the times it all seems pretty accurate, but I would like other people to tell me I'm wrong, so I can keep updating this update.

I'll give yer update a shot.

You'll probably be in with a shout of the best update if you can get the greyed out national teams going, rename the various trophies and do a few English loans.

Oops...

I posted this update on the Dutch data issues thread yesterday, and then I posted it in the Editors Hideaway. I forgot that I couldn't just copy & paste my post. To clarify: with "I used a lot of info from the SI data issues threads, and I used virtually all of the info in this particular thread." I mean the Dutch data issues thread.

ArchieT,

Thanks for your interest. I do know a way to get the greyed out national teams going, but it has nothing to do with database editing. Unfortunately, I don't think it's allowed to explain how to do this on the SI forums, but if you search the internet you are bound to find the 'solution'. By the way, on games with my update, the Dutch national team seems to 'act' pretty realistically.

About the trophies and English loans, I did rename a number of trophies and awards, but I concentrated on the Netherlands mostly. And I did edit a lot of stuff in England, but the task would have been too daunting if I would have addressed every data issue, so again I focussed on the Dutch leagues. Maybe you could load my update in your editor and change a few things you would like to see changed.

Good luck!
