It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default First time asking for help - And I hate it!

Well well well... I never thought it would come to this, but I need help.

I am currently playing a network game with a friend of mine and nothing works. We are now halfway through the third season, and my problem in this - and most other FM-games is the post-1st-season tactics.

In the first season my team (Liverpool) won the EPL title with three games in hand. I had a fourteen game spell without conceding a goal.

The second season was okayish, however I finished second and crashed out of all the tournaments very early.

Now, halfway in the third season this is how im doing:

As you can see it has been a very poor season considering the amount of talent in my squad.

What annoys me the most is the inconsistent performances. Beating Chelsea 2-1 and then lose 6-0 to Everton a few games later.

Im asking you to give me some advice on how to turn this around. Ive read several articles by Cleon, wwfan and alot of other people, and even though it makes sense it just doesnt make my team perform on a consistent basis.

Ive also tried to download some tactics, tweaked the standard ones etc. My training works okay I think, most of the players respond in a positive way.

Bottomline is im out of ideas. If someone can give me some advice and/or ideas how to turn this around, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

You didn't mention how well you did in Europe (which is somewhat relevant) but this season are obviously storming ahead. What seems to be happening is you have built a tactical system that in your first season (low personal reputation although in charge of a good team) gave you success. The second place finish the next season enhancd your reputation, so, despite not doing as well, menat that AI teams took you even more seriously than before.

Looking at your results list it seems you are strugling against teams with a mid-table reputation. I would argue for a slightly wider, more aggressive approach with FBs going forward for such games at home and possibly increased closing down away. It's difficult to get things exactly right but I think an overall method of a) more players getting forward at home & b) trying to be a little more aggressive away should help. Don't be afraid to experiment with a home tactic away from home if it is a match you are pretty sure you should win and the AI starts short-farrowed.

I tried that combination of wwfan and cleons tactics. You know the rule of one, and trying to read the oppositions tactic. It works okay I guess, but I still lose heavily to the smaller sides.

I beat United in the league, Valencia in the CL knockout stage, and Chelsea in the CC final. After those three games i felt very confident, but then i lost 4-0 to Charlton... I never lose 1-0 or 2-1. Its like there is a curse over my team.

How do you usually play against the smaller teams away from home? Im having trouble figuring out width, speed and passing.

Employing the home tactic against a much weaker side - like you suggested wwfan, hasn't really worked for me. IRL i think I should be able to run over the small teams, simply because of the amount of talent in my squad, but it doesnt work like that obviously.

Advice? Anyone?
