Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Player evaluations by Coaches

What is the order of player evaluations you'd like to see from your coaches under the Training Overview? Here's my stab at the order, but it's just a guess:

*Average
*Useful
*Decent
*Right skill and luck to be a quality player indeed
*Key player
*Showing his worth despite his young age

I know I'm missing many, but based on the wording I'm not 100% sure as to whether a Useful player is better than a Decent player. The Team Report from the Assistant Manager helps (using stars and recommended starters), but it's still not quite so intuitive Help?

average
decent
useful
showing his worth
right skill
key player

My guess. Dunno about the bottom two tbh, and I wouldn't care a toss about anyone who was reported as being either (as well as useful if I'm honest).

You don't think that 'key player' is the best report?

haha.

I see I'm not the only one confused about the order.

The reason I ranked "showing his worth despite his young age" above Key Player is that that represents potential is good as well as current ability, plus he's young. It's probably more of a toss-up, though.

I've also gotten "[player name] is having a positive effect on the team". Not sure where that fits in, either.

In my opinion they aren't worth a hell of a lot anyway.

I know for a fact that the best players in your squad don't always get the respect they are due ability-wise, and it's not just from the coach having poor judging stats.

My advice... terminate everyone's contracts and start from scratch and go on your scout's advice alone

The main crux of the problem is that I *assume* coaches can also see Potential Ability, the same as Scouts, but since I can't use a Scout on my own players, my only hope is the coaches or cheating, and I'd rather not cheat. Now, if coaches really can't see PA, then that goes out the window, but based on some of their comments that seems to be the case. Anyone know about this?

I had tried saving the game, waiving the player in question, and then having the player scouted, but Waived players still hold rights to my team, which makes them unscoutable. I suppose I could offer them a Mutual Termination and see how that goes...

I'll try and give that a shot. There are so many things you need to do as a manager in the game it'd be nice if the Coaches and Scouts could help by having mostly reliable info and handling some of the more mundane tasks.

If you think the coaching part is really lacking and ruins your game as a result, use a saved game editor to have a quick peek at your team on the first day, just to see how your players look.

I used to do that on the older games before you even got coach reports.

Sadly, that's looking like what I'll have to do.

If I have time, I'll try and do that and post the results here. Unless someone else has done this already...
