really newbie question - cross balls & through balls
Ok, so i really dont know much about football...and this post will show it.
What does Cross ball mean? Am assuming that Crossing is the linked stat...i think i might know what it means (could it be long passes from one side of the field to the other?)
What about Through Balls?
I assume the following:
Forward Runs: The striker will try to run ahead of the ball, or rather spearhead the attack.
Run with Ball: The player will dribble up the ball.
I think i can figure out the rest. But am going through my tactics and trying to tinker with em.
Thanks in advance. And yes I do know it would be obvious to someone who follows the sport closely...i however, dont.

really newbie question - cross balls & through balls Post #2
Through Balls: when a player plays the ball in behind the opposing defender for one of his team-mates to run onto. very useful if you have quick strikers with high of the ball
Cross Ball: when 1 of your players has the ball on the flank if he crosses it he puts a ball(usually high) in for a striker or an on running midfielder to finish off with a shot(usually a header)
Pressing: when your player(s) close down an oppostion player who has the ball - can be usful but could cause problems with your oplayers being caught out of position if the slider is set too high
and Forward runs: what it says on the tin basically who ever has this instruction will try to run forward when the team is in possesion - useful for a fast striker but beware he could be caught offside a lot
also useful for a midfielder you want to run intyo the box when attacking or if you want your winger to play high up the pitch or your full backs to join the attack
hope this helps and welcome to the wonderful (and extremely painful lol) world of football

really newbie question - cross balls & through balls Post #4
my experience with football is playing it for about uhm, 5 years when i was a kid....and then i have watched the world cup, the last few times it's been on. So not that much, and not enough to pick up all the nuances of the tactics, formations, types of plays, positioning and all that fun stuff.
So a lot of the lingo you folks (those in the know I mean) use on a common basis, i can only basically figure out. I had a gist of what Crossing meant, but I wasn't sure.
And also in my defense...i mean do you watch american football? i mean would you know what a sweep is in american football, or for that matter a post pattern. I am sure you could probably guess at it.
Football is not that big in america, probably in terms of popularity i would have to place it at 5th...after american football, basketball, baseball & hockey.
Anyway, i have gotten a lot of positive responses with my questions hence will keep on asking. And in all hoensty i much rather know what it is than not. And if that means asking a question that might appear "stupid" (not accusing you or anything) well then, i am your man!

why thanks guys, i do appreciate the vote of confidence there...
you see the crossing makes so much more sense to me now, because before when i was watching my games sim. I would see some guy run up the side of the goal (well mid way between the goal and the corner) instead of making a dash to the goal. And to be honest, i dont want to say i was upset, but lets say i was not amused. Now, i know why...he was gettin into position, so he could "cross" the ball in front of the goalie, in hopes that team mate can punch it.
And thanks again, oh if you want...i can start to make the threadsd "why cant I win" if you want...well except the leet speak.

Are you an American? If so, that's great! The more of us Yanks that watch the game the better our league and National Team will become.
Also, if you know the NFL well then you'll probably be able to jump right into the MLS, as trades, salary cap, and the draft are pretty much just like the other American sports
