anyone know how to get forward players to come back and recieve the ball, tried changing mentality, forward runs but my forward and attacking mid just want to stand on the defender while my midfield and defenders pass it around

Weird, my striker seems to drop deep enough when I set his forward runs to rarely. Having his mentality be less than the midfielders' also helps.

I have him on normal creative freedom and no free role.
