My first update thread Yes, i've read the sticky, and i already finished 3+ seasons.
2004/2005 – St. Albans
the board wanted mid-table, the fans wanted me to rebuild the squad, the media prediction on the information screen said relegation battlers. For the first time in my life i thought the media was right. The whole squad needed improvement especially at the back. Signed a few experienced players, but couldn’t improve the squad significantly. The ¾ of theseason went as planned, sitting lower mid-table. In january signed a keeper on loan, and a 39 year old stiker:eek: hoping things improve upfront, and at the back. The veteran stiker scored 8 goals in 13 games, and we slowly started climbing the table. Had an outside chance of making the play-offs, but eventually finished 6th.
cups: we got knocked out in the first round of every cup competition. Conf. South: 6th won 16 draw 14 lost 12 for 58 against 46 g.d. +12 pts 62
I was optimistic before the season, managed to sign some great players (for this level), so i was hoping for a place in the playoffs. Both the fans and the board wanted mid-table again. Sending a scout to scotland paid of, found a great stiker, who getting 16 goals in the season, and a good amc, who scored some vital goals for us.
After an average start our form picked up, and we played like real promotion contenders. It was a two-horse race between us and Havant & W, but with one game to go i could only salvage a point away at Basingstoke, meaning H&W had a 2 point lead. Unfortunetly we both won our last games, and it meant we only finished 2nd.
In the semi-final we got Margate who we thumped twice in the league. They were much harder to beat this time, but we reahced a final after an 3-2 aggregate. In the conf. south final we met bath city, who were our bogey team, so the 2-0 defeat wasn’t unexpected. Bath went on wining the north/south final, earning a place in the conference national.
Cups:crashed out again in the first round both in the fa cup and the fa trophy Conf. South: 2nd won 21 draw 15 lost 5 for 78 against 38 g.d. +40 pts 79
We already had a strong squad, and with the addition of a young winger released by charlton, i was hoping we can finish the season as champions. Everything went as planned, one time we had a 10 point lead over Kingstonian. Then came the usual january slump. We only won 2 in january/early february, and we found ourselves at 3rd. Needed to win on the last day, and hoping that Kingstonian slip up at 3rd placed Dag&Red. They did us no favours, so once again we finished 2nd. We had a scare in the play-off semi final, when we were held 0-0 at home against Halesowen, and being 1-0 down in the first few minutes of the 2nd leg. After a great comeback in the second half the match finished 1-5  We easily beat Dag&Red 2-0 in the final. In the north/south final we met Droylsden, who completely outplayed us, and won 2-0. So at least 1 more season in the conference south The only positive thing was after the defeat, that this season we actually made a little profit.
Cups: Still no luck in the cups. Reached the 1st proper round of the fa cup, got beaten in the replay by Newport Co. Bognor Regis beat us in the first round of the fa trophy. Conf. South: 2nd won 24 draw 10 lost 8 for 54 against 24 g.d. +30 pts 82
