You'll never get a job offer from River Plate now, you're far too reputable a manager. They'll consider you unattainable. |

And Mooski, the leg hair bit probably isn't far off of Brazil's true promotion criteria. |

I'm back in brazil in my game and just got promotion to the 1st div.
Funny I was top of the league, went into a playoff league (top 8 teams) split in 2 groups of 4 won that then wnet in to a final group of 4 from which the top two get promoted!
Now tell me whats hard to work out about that
PS if you think I'm going to try to explain the 3rd division promotion system you can stick it up your chuff
anyway good luck and KUTGW

I managed to win the Copa Libertadores with Leigh RMI though. Almost as hard.

Season 2006:
Transfer budget £1k (woo-hoo!)
Wage Budget: £7,000
A very slow start in the Goias State Champs became a state of emergency in the 6th match season after taking 1 point from the first 5 games. Some serious scouting then began to unearth a few free transfer signings. Eventually, I brought in a good aggressive winger, an attacking midfielder, a playmaker, a pair of centre halves and a keeper -- all youngish cast-offs from bigger clubs. My right winger from last season breaks a leg in the 6th game and is out for 6 months - he was my best player at that point. He then managed to repeat the injury within 10 games of returning, so not a good season for him. However - the sale of my one saleable asset, for £200k, proved to be the turning point. My free agents started to click and I purchased a striker and a playmaker. Another player swap brought in another central midfielder, and my season started to take shape in the all important Brazilian 3rd division. My side went from leaking lazy goals to suddenly being tough to beat. When I started bagging counter-attack goals, after a minor formation switch forced upon me by injury, things only improved even further - and in the 12th of 14 league stage games, I secured a playoff spot, in the round of 32.
Excuse the length of the update at this point, but its a fairly eventful process. Once your 14 league games are up, the round of 32 starts - direct knock out, F.A. Cup style, other than the fact that it has home and away legs. The only difference here is that there is no away goals / extra time / pens. If the scores are level, the team with the best league record wins - which unfortunately, was never going to be me. A couple of close wins brought me to the last 8 and a tough looking match against Desportiva - and finally, my team cut loose, to propel themselves into the last four! At this stage, however, it is all change again as a mini league "final" is formed between the remaining four teams, and you play each side home and away. First game against Potiguar at home I drew 0-0. Second game away to favourites Fluminense (BA) I drew 0-0. A 2-1 away win against Malutrom and a 2-0 away win against Potiguar drove me into the top two promotion slots, which I rounded off nicely with a 3-1 home win against Fluminense (BA) and a 1-1 draw played out by my reserves against Malutrom to deny them second spot. From 108 teams in the Brazilian third division, I'd made the top spot to gain the promotion I was desperate for - with a 23 game unbeaten streak! That was followed by the arrival of £300,000 prize money, which just made the sweet feeling even better. Just to round things off nicely, I pulled in the 3rd Division Manager of the Year award. The only bad news is that my arch-nemeses, Anapolina, sneaked 8th spot in the Brazilian Second Division, and then went on to win to gain promotion to the top flight through the playoffs - so my revenge against them will have to wait. An indication of what could await, with some luck?
Standings:
Goias State Champs: 7th position, but I finally broke my Anapolina duck in the quarter finals before being knocked out by perennial championship challengers and first division side Goias in the semi-finals.
3rd Division: 2nd place in Group 16. Defeated Portuguesa (RJ) in the second round by 2 - 1. Defeated Ituano by 2 - 1 in the third round. Topped the "final" league of four with 12 points and gained promotion to the Brazilian second division 12 points, from Fluminense (BA) with 8.
Average Attendance (Calendar Year 06): 11,399
Financial Status: £672k in the black after a £950k positive season - mainly funded by sales, better attendances and prize money.
