Just a quick question. I take it that teams that get promoted to conf. north and conf south come from feeder leagues based in the relevant areas.
So say for example 1 team from south gets promoted and 2 from the north but the 3 teams that get relegated from the national are all based in the north then would 1 of them have to play in the south league or would they have a jumble around with the teams so that the southern most northen team would be moved to the south league.
So in theory could the team you were with in the north be playing in the south in the next season.
I guess it doesnt make that much difference in FM but in real life it could be an issue with travelling for away games etc...
Except that after a few seasons, it gets all confused. i.e. played as Hampton & Richmond in both N & S; in the Conf N, a derby game was if we only had to travel 150 miles.
As explained IRL the club or club geographically in the middle of the North/South divide get relocated. It could be Kettering or Stafford or somewhere around there.
However currently the FM engine doesn't get it quite right; for instance in my game London team Redbridge got shifted to the North.
The FM engine doesn't get it quite right, as andyinkat said.
Basically what happens is that there are 44 teams in the 2 divisions (Conf North & Conf South)
The 22 Northernmost play in the Conference North, the 22 Southernmost in the Conference South, so it's conceivable that some clubs will swap between the two.
Pretty much as described in that the league decides which clubs go where. The 2 options are that a team relegated from national conference directly replaces a promoted regional conference side, or one of the existing regional conference teams shuffle across.
E.g.
- 3 "northern" teams, say York, Morecambe Scarborough relegated from National Conference
- Southport promoted from Conference North
- Lewes promoted from Conference South
- Welling (Conf. South) promoted through play-offs.
The league might decide to shuffle Kettering and Worcester across to Conference South from Conference North and add the 3 relegated teams to Conference North.
In real life this was a major problem ( I think it was Stafford ) due to the fact they changed regional divison several times over a short period of time. Problem being that the squad may have been based around northern based players and then the next season they would lose the squad as they wouldn't want to travel down south for every match.
