Findefinn:
If I get into a thread and find an edited post, people telling the poster to shut off and a banning, a yellow or a warning attached to that poster's status I know what he has said was either against the forum rules or quite offensive stuff.
I don't know where's the trouble with that.
It doesn't contribute to the forum, it isn't interesting to read and it won't make my day, so, if the mods edit it, fine with me.
I don't need to know what that person said. I know it wasn't a valid point.
But perhaps that's due to me not being a gossipmonger who needs to read everything that's being posted in this forum.

Unfortunately for me, ITV don't think a saturday or sunday night is a decent time to put the Championship on. It is shown only on a Sunday morning or about 2am on a Monday.
Right ok.
Fin, I am just repeating what some people have said above, but I don't think you are going to understand and accept it unless it comes from a mod.
This forum is not about freedom of speech or a democracy. When you agree to the TOC you agree to this and as Mods of the forum, we reserve the right to manage users and posts as we see fit.
I assume the comment you are on about was edited out of respect and because this is a family board. It isn't just for adults.
There is no discussion regarding this subject. It is set in stone all the way from the top. Don't try and fight it, just accept it.
Closed.

Findefinn. I have no reason or desire to explain any of my actions undertaken on this Board as a Moderator, but on this occasion I shall, just to clarify a few things.
The editing facility afforded to the Mods is there for two reasons, in my opinion. 1) To remove obscene, offensive, racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. posts that don't deserve to be seen in a public place. 2) To remove statements or words that contravene the Forum Rules.
That's it. No other reason.
I take my position here seriously. I seldom ban anyone, I generally use my wits to talk down certain situations, with the obvious safety net of deleting an account if the miscreant continues his misdemeanours. I'm probably more broad minded than the majority of people on the Board and sometimes post the odd "cuss", even though we're not meant to.
Now, you saw what was posted. It was obscene, offensive and sexist and no way would I wish my son or daughter to see such filth on a messageboard where people as young as 11 years of age post, and I like to think that the parents of those kids would thank me for removing such filth before they see it.
Given the same, or even lesser, situation I shall do the same again, and if I'm first to the post I'll ban the perpetrator (that's not criticising Pete, btw. He dealt with it as he saw fit and the majority would probably agree with his decision)
Posting such stuff is bad enough, but to then have it quoted three subsequent times is totally unacceptable and in the future I shall treat the quoter the same as the quoted.
If you disagree with what I've said or wish to take it up with myself or Marc Duffy then feel free to do so.
I shall not allow this Forum to be labelled as one where pornographic filth is readily accepted.
I'll leave this open in case you want to reply.

Ok Ian, having read this through again, and having seen your reply I agree with what you have said.
I would not want my god-child reading such filth, or anyone elses for that matter.
If you read what I posted on that thread then you know that I was quick to say something and Ian dealt with it very quickly and appropriately. Which we all agree on. Right?
I also agree with you that this is not a Blog site and that there has to be limits on what people say here. For you and the other moderators I am sure that I speak for all that you do the policing of this forum very well and I am not questioning the forum or most of your methods.
But...
You say that "The editing facility afforded to the Mods is there for two reasons, in my opinion. 1) To remove obscene, offensive, racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. posts that don't deserve to be seen in a public place. 2) To remove statements or words that contravene the Forum Rules."
Now if was gay I could be easily offended by this site; Racist comments occur on nearly every thread, whether you are American, English, Greek or Scottish, its just that we are all adult enough to know that these are mostly said in fun.
If you know an under 11 boy then I think if you showed him what was written he wouldnt bat an eye-lid, as Im sure he knows those words or even worse already!
Again, why treat us like children? those who have replied to this post have not held back in their critisism, and for all they know I could be 8 years old!
Sorry for the rant Ian + Cosmo and all you guys, but I am against any form of censorship. Full stop.
If your easily offended please overt your eyes |

Even if I did feel like leaving the comment and the quotes in situ we have Terms and Conditions and House Rules that everyone signs up to when they register here (and seldom read) that says such posts cannot and will not be tolerated.
I have no apology for removing them and everything I've posted since stands.

Fair enough, but in my opinion, (and I think Im allowed one), censorship suck arse.
I still think this is the best forum and I accept the rules and guidelines, but I would allow idiots to see how silly they were.
It worked for me (almost)
No disrespect to anyone upset with my comments

Can't see anyone upset from here.
It's one thing letting people see what's not allowed, it's completely another leaving posts and quotes of the same on a Board when it may jeapordise the Board's, and especially the Forum's, future.
You're saying it worked for you. I honestly can't see anyone even remotely believing that they could get away with posting that filth.
We've both had our say, it's here for all to see, I'll just close this now to save it from being hi-jacked into nonsense.
