Well, I finally finished my 3rd season (8days 0 hours 21minutes). It's been long and hard but it was so worth it! A lot of you know that I like to make (and normally lose) bets with my wife. This time she pick Stafford for me to manage. I kept running into bugs while managing everyone's favortie team, Exeter. Anyway Here goes:
Season 04/05
Expected to finish in the top half of Conf. N when I was brought on. I begin by hiring 2 scouts and a GK coach, this puts me close to my wage limit so I clear some space by seperating the wheat from the chaff. I managed to get 3 season long loanees from Man U. and 1 from Liverpool. The loanees mesh very well with the the rest of my boys and we start the season with a seven game win streak. My scouts scour the realm and find me a top shelf striker, a dazzling midfielder, and a Jamican National teamer that I can pick up for zero transfer wages. Can't pass it up so I sell a few guys to clear room for his wage demand and he is mine by the 1.1.05. By the time he joins the team, The Lads of Marston Road aren't leaving any doubt that they want to be in the conference national. My goalie breaks his leg at the Ides of January and my backup couldn't keep a bowling ball out of a drinking glass if he had his hand on it. My scout found me another Jamaican (I have a fondess for them) that I could get on loan, and well you know what happened there. While waiting for him to arrive, the Sieve allows 5 goals a game and sends Me and the boys on a rather long non winning streak. Luckily we were so far out in front to start the season, or I would have got the sack for that thing. Wow! This is getting long let me wrap it up and say we won Conf N. and Managed to Steal victory from the Jaws of defeat in the Fa Trophy by scoring 2 goals in the final 5 minutes of regulation vs. Halifax.

and with that we head to:
Season 05/06
My scouts are pure genius. Over the offseason I am approched by a middle eastern team that wants my Jamaican midfielder. He's worth 120 now but I just can't let the centrepiece of my team leave. So, I counter with an offer of 1 million. I was shocked when they said o.k. So now I am minus a centrepiece but 1 million pounds richer. I wasn't short of a centrepiece long. The bulk of my season long loanees (most were transferlisted as well) I sign for very little in transfer fees. I upgrade my training ground, and begin hiring a slew of coaches and scouts. Might as well put the money to good use. I sign my Jamaican goalie from his team and his gets his work permit because he played in a couple of friendlies for the National team.
The Bookies say I'm a 6-1 shot for promotion in Conf. National, and I hope to prove them right.
My 1st game is against Exeter, and he has some choice words for me prior to our match... I say nothing, we beat them 5-0. Then I let him have it. My guys have "drunk the Kool-aid" and buy into whatever I am spouting at the press. I managed to get a couple more Loanees from my good buddy at Man U. They buy into the system and we are off again on a season beginning tear. I begin to dread thr turn of January as I lose 2 midfielders with torn Hammies, and a fullback with a torn groin. January hates me. My loanees step up and I find another loanee to fill the backfield. As the seaosn winds down in March my boys have managed to keep us in a playoff position while waiting for the wounded to return. Cup games however are a different animal. The Boro boys are rabid about defending the Fa Trophy, demolishing all that come theie way. LDV we were bounced 1st round, Fa Cup we made it to the 3rd round, but The FA trophy they want to keep. At the turn of march the 2 midfielders work their way back into the lineup and unleash a torrent of through balls and spectactular assists for my starving strikers. We finish the season on a 8 game win streak and sneak into 1st by goal difference. No Playoffs this year!!!! In the Fa trophy we make the final... against Exeter. Their manager expresses anger at drawing us in the final. I say I'd be upset too if someone handed me my tail twice. The game is fought long and hard and the ref has writers cramp. 5 red cards, 14 yellow cards and the match goes to a penalty shootout. The Goalies are in fine form as each of the 1st 2 shots are saved. Then We score, they match we score they match again. They miss their next 4, as do I. At this point I'm not watching the screen anymore, my wife is describing it as I have completely lost my mind. Their 9th man steps up to take the shot from the spot..................SAVE!!!!! My goalie is my 9th shooter (you know it's crazy when the goalie shoots Penalties)... He steps up...shoots........... It's In IT's IN It's In... at this point the wife has to tell me to quit jumping up and down before I wake the downstairs neighbors.
We retain and say goodbye to the FA trophy and Conference national.

back with 3rd season
At this point I cannot beleive I've been promoted twice in a row. I must be dreaming because Glass slippers don't come in my size. Over the offseason the higher cluibs have turned their eye to Marston raod and the raid begins in earnest. 7 players sold for a total of 2.2million all of them by release clause. I still have a few tricks up my sleeve because, well at this point my club is rich and so far under budget I can afford some named guys and I give chase. They all have their reservations about coming to a League 2 semi-pro team... but money Talks. I pull four quality people from Holland, a couple of Frenchman (mainly to pick on), a Moroccan, and the rest are English. My Ass man is French and I have 2 Dutch coaches, so no worries about adjusting to life outside of Marston road. When all is said and done the bookies tip me at a 3-1 for promotion. How the Heck!!! I just got here. Oh well...the stress of teaching 12 people a new system in 6 weeks proves daunting. and we start the season on a 4 losing streak. I have become the laugingstock of league 2 after 6 weeks. in last pace with a -13 GD and winless. Relegation is certain. I use some of my transfer fees to buy a striker and a cracking midfielder from my chum at Man U. Arsenal has a fullback I have my eye on, but he won't come play even on a loan. as soon as the Man U. pair arrive they are reunited with 3 other former red devils and things begin to look up. in Their 1st game the new pair have 4 goals and 4 assists in a win. My boys feel better, and the feeling grows. We clean sweep November. Do not allow a single goal for the month, Including cup games and The Boro are on a roll again. Finish December 4 wins 1 draw.
Damn January Strikes again. 2 fullbacks down, 1 striker down, goalie down. I'm thinking I may not play games in January ever again. My backup goalie is a whole lot better than the guy 2 seasons ago. He'll have to be a my goalie is down for 4 months thanks to a torn Hammy. Meanwhile I request a training ground upgrade and get it. I also ask for Stadium expansion, and they tell me they are considering it. I limp through January, winning only LDV games. I get bounced from the FA cup by the Hotspur 3-2. Mid February and the walking wounded begin to return. My striker is furious that he no longer leads the team in goals and turns consecutive hat-tricks. The goalie is emboldened by the goal support he is recieving from the revives striker. March and April bring back the full strength and glory. but it may be too late, we are cuurently 14th which is fine for not being relegated but we were tipped for at least a playoff spot. I begin motivating through the press to spur on the boys and it works. My guys work their Magic and win out. We eek into 7th position by beating Walsall on the final day. The win puts us in 7th and them in 8th.
In the Playoff Emotions are high and tempers flare against Grimsby. We win 1-0 get to play Oldham in the Promotion final. The LDV trophy was ours to lose this year, seems me boys don't want to go anywhere without a cup in their hand. We managed to beat 3 league one teams in a row, Including Hartlepool in a cracking game that ended 4-2 in extra time. Shrewsbury didn't stand a chance and were mopped up 2-0 in the final.
Back to the Promotion final. Oldham had beaten us twice this year 4-0 and 3-2. Their manager had decided to remind me of this and the fact. IN a game that will go down in the Annals of the boro, we held them scoreless this time and managed to score the games only goal at the 92:50 mark in a game that had 3 minutes of extra time. I for the life of me cannot believe that In 3 years I am going from Conf. N to League one. This is unreal and shouldn't happen yet it is. I think because of the 1 million pound influx I have been able to acquire players and coaches that have allowed me to succeed. Then the subsequent 2.2 million pound influx enabled me to compete with much larger teams because I had the Cash to throw around. I have guys on my team that are only paid 50 pounds a week still! My team has been pillaged again in the off season with 4 key players leaving. Still, they left me another 1.2 million pounds richer and now I have top flight training with a youth academy. League one should be fun.. see you at the next update
