Default England in the Copa America

I'm about ten seasons in and I've took over England. The strange thing is though, that England seem to be entered into the Copa America. That's not right, surely. It's like the European Championship for the Americas and unless my geography is seriously off that shouldn't include the Three Lions.

Anyone know what's going on? Is it a mistake or a curious little quirk thrown in by the designers?

That isn't a bug. There isn't enough teams to full all the slots for the Copa America so two teams get invited (Always Mexico and last time the USA) However that invite can be extended to any country in the world so in theory could play in the Copa America if invited.

It's a marketing thing - it enables the Copa America to interest a wider audience and thus obtain more sponsor and TV money.

The Copa América (English: "America Cup") is the main football competition of the men's national football teams governed by CONMEBOL, the South American football confederation. It is the oldest international tournament in the world starting in 1916. The participating nations are Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. Two invited teams from other confederations complete the twelve team tournament. Usually two or three CONCACAF teams get an invitation to participate at each tournament. Mexico has been a regular since they were invited for the first time in 1993. As CONMEBOL only has the 10 members mentioned above, there is no qualification tournament, nor is there a qualification tournament for the invited teams. They are invited on their own merits, such as by winning matches in World Cup finals or from qualification stages in their confederations.

I'm sorry for bringing something up that's already been gone over many times, but hank you nonetheless to all those who answered.

And, and no, I haven't continued from a demo game.
