I've been thinking about how something in the game doesn't mirror real life. If FM, there is no possibility for teenage superstars because of the CA growth. Regens start out with low PA and slowly get higher CA- it's a fact. However, this rules out the likes of a regen Fabregas or a regen Rooney who were world class players (first-teamers at least) at 17. This cannot happen in FM. A 17 year old is unlikely to have a CA of more than 120 or so, which basically puts them at a League 1/Championship level.
On the contrary, some players don't blossom until their mid-20's. I had never heard of Luca Toni until he was in his mid-20's. Maybe I'm just ignorant on that matter, but there are tons of examples of world class players starting late. Likewise, FM does not account for this. CA growth does not allow for massive spurts in small periods of time, nor does it allow for natural spurts of progression with the absence of good facilities.
The way I see it, all regens start out poor. They gain and lose CA at a fairly constant rate. It roughly is equivalent to a parabola. As they mature they gain CA until they are old enough to lose it.
All I ask for is for the possibility for players to have a more random CA growth to provide for a more varied crop of regens.

You ask a good question, and I would like to hear a response from someone who really knows aswell. But, I think that CA growth does depend on a few variables: form, age, mentoring, training, first team exposure.
It's possible to have teenage superstars, just because their CA is low doesn't mean they can't be a big hit. In my 20 year+ game I have used a 16 year old at right back for an entire season and he got a average rating of 7.80. He very rarely got beat, I've also played a 20 year old striker and had him score 30+ goals in a season. It is possible, you just have to hope that his stats are good in the right places, like the examples I posted above.
Also, just think how often these type of players actually occur IRL. Very rarely.

I don't really agree. Let's look at the teenage premier league players:
Arsenal: Fabregas was a superstar in his teens. Bendtner was good enough to start in the championship at 18. Clichy was the youngest player to win a premier league medal. Denilson is good enough to start for a lower premier league team.
That's just Arsenal. I'm not necessarily suggesting that there should be more teenage superstars, but there should definitely be more quality younger regens in terms of CA.
