Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Something that has bugged me the last couple of days (DMs & FBs)

After reading many topics I've noticed that when playing a formation utilizing a DM that some people will have the DM closer to the AM in mentality, while having the fullbacks with a slightly more defensive mentality than the DM.

Other's have the other way around. The DM is more defensive and the fullbacks are just a notch higher in mentality.

Which one is more effective? Does way try to defend the middle more and other tries to defend the flanks?

Depends what you are trying to do with your DM. There are many types of DMs and roles for them to play.

Just to elaborate a little more... You have hard men DMC's who close down and make life hard (sissoko)(lower mentality) and you also have playmaker DMC's like Xavi to control the game.(higher mentality)

I use Xavi in my game actually. I usually have him with a little higher mentality then my fullbacks.

So would you recommend for someone like him to have a high CF? The reason I ask is because my playmer is Ronaldinho and he already has a high CF. Would it hurt to let Xavi have a high one too?

I'd make Xavi the playmaker if I was you. Give him lots of CF and he will run the game like a general. Ronnie can also have high CF as he is awesome.

Ideally you don't want more than 3 or 4 players with high CF so the game keeps to the plan you devised.

Thaks Dayle, I'll try this out. I usually let Ronnie be the playmaker. He's been great in the last 3 games. In this case should Xavi's closing down be reduced?

If Ronnies working out ok for you just leave it.
But Xavi is their playmaker in real life and I use him too and he is awesome. Whatever works for you.

If you use him as a playmaker closing down should be reduced yeah so that he is in space more to pick up passes.

Try him with and without a free role and see which you prefer.
