It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Crouch and Kuyt Problem

I am playing as Chelsea and have recently bought Ferdinand so him and Terry at teh back make a Worldclass combionation just like in real life.

My problem is when I play against Liverpool and they play a 442 with Crouch and Kuyt up front they always give me problems.

I also play a 442 but my question is what would be the best defensive setup for both tactics and opposition instructions which can cancel out these two men.

For Crouch I use closing down always as an Opposition Instruction so Terry takes the ball off his head 99% of the time and for Kuyt I use the same except whever he gets the ball to his feet he turns Ferdinand, who is closing him down quickly, the wrong way, skips past and scores.

Would the best instruction be to never close him down and to back off him?

Yea. don't close down strikers that have a decent amount of pace and dribbling or you'll end up getting turned all the time.

So yea take off closing down and try 'tight marking' him. Tight marking them usually works for me anyway. Make sure he has closing down rarely on his individual instructions because tight mark + closing down = problems for you.

Also, for Crouch keep closing him down and maybe try hard tackling him? I dunno what he has for things like bravery and strength but maybe you can rough him up a bit so he can't drop off and play Kuyt through on goal.

Kuyt possesses an awesome shot from distance, so I would normally tight mark and close down him..

In my Arsenal game, Liverpool bought Tevez and the Kuyt-Tevez partnership would see Liverpool peppering my goal with shots after shots from distance.. a real nightmare

Oh one more.

How do you think Yakubu should be dealt with as I'm about to play boro and can't really figure out waht sort of striker he is.

In general how do you think strikers of different types should be dealty with.

The 3 main types I can think of are

Playmaker Forwards - Rooney
Target Men - Crouch, Klose, Morientes, Drogba
Pacey Strikers - Bellamy, Eto'o

The ones that I think could cause the real problems are the ones that don't fall into one of these categories such as Owen who although is pacey can also be a box player and Henry who is pacey but can also play in a playmaker type role.

Well, Yakubu is very fast so i'd probably have him tight marked and maybe show him onto his weaker foot in hope that it'll reduce his effectiveness. But watch out he does like to drift out onto the flanks so maybe have a look at your full backs and lower their mentality.

In general:

Playmaker types - I usually have them closed down often and hard tackling because they drop off towards midfield you should have enough men in there to crowd him out and take the ball off them. Or maybe drop a midfielder back to DMC to mark and deal with them.

Target men types - It depends really because some are quite pacey but some are just big and hold up the ball. For the slower ones have them closed down and hard tackles id they have low anticipation/strenght/bravery. For the bigger physical types have them tight marked and get your best header on them.

Pacey types - Low closing down normally and get them tight marked. Hard tackle if they are on the small/weak side.

And finally for Henry and Own types, you could try a combination of the above to limit their effectiveness but realistically they are still gonna cause havoc -
