Hi guys, this is the first time I've ever posted a tactic: (1) before anyone replies slagging it off can I emphasise that this tactic was set up and suited to my players and then adjusted for the opposition (if you do this you WILL get better results) and (2) Any tactic will only be as successful if you get the team talks, man management and tweaking right!
Team - Ipswich Town
My squad is a bit thin, my only signings being David Thompson on a free, John Hartson as a back up player and Phillip Bardsley on loan, Danny Haynes was sold for £500,000 to bring in some much needed cash. With a bigger budget and better players this tactic could really pay dividends
Tactics - It's a flexible 4-3-2-1 / 4-3-3 system that is changed based on the opposition and the scout reports (away from home I often go narrow) which are invaluable to gaining an advantage in any match. One key has been to reduce the palyer mentality and the teams width in games in order to maintain possession and keep control of games.
The players -
This tactic relies on adapatable strikers who can also play as wide wingers or attacking midfielders and a strong aerial threat from your central striker (Alan Lee was immense with 18 goalsin 20 games and 9 MOM till injury) and a defence with good positional sense.
The results -
Not out of this world but very respectable - got to 6th by January 1st when a mid table position was expected, and this might have been better if I'd not lost Alan Lee for December.
Below is a link to a photo album on Imageshack that contains screenies for the tactics, positions and player instructions. I don't change the player instructions for the wide men when they drop back or play inside on the narrow version of the tactic.
