Default FM2007: Arsenal Thread - Home of the Gooners

Last season was a mixture of good and bad. We were very inconsistent in EPL, knocked out of FA Cup quite early, losing games that we could have won and not able to get a point away from home. Although we did make it to the final of Champions League, became the first London-Based club that made it to the final, also managed to break the record for most clean-sheet, with the emergency defence being the hero of it. The win at Bernabeu, Delle Alpi and El-Madrigal brought us to Stade de France, with fate seeming to be going our way, but the strike of Eto’o banished it.

This new season, Henry is staying, a 60,000 seat new stadium, new faces brought in to replace those who left, and our squad looking much younger and fresher and after a limping start to the new season, we finally picked our pace with some good results, notably a 1-0 win over Man Utd. Although injury crisis still hanging over, but things are certainly looking up

Notable Transfers out:

Robert Pires – Villareal
Pascal Cygan – Villareal
Ashley Cole – Chelsea
Jose Antonio Reyes – Real Madrid (loan)
Sol Campbell - Portsmouth
Dennis Bergkamp – Retired

Notable Transfers in:

Tomas Rosicky – Dortmund
William Gallas – Chelsea
Julio Baptista – Real Madrid (loan)

General Info in FM 2007

Overview | Nation | England| Year Founded | 1886| Status | Professional| Reputation | Continental| World Ranking | 5th| Chairman Status | Loves the club| Favoured Personnel | Arsène Wenger, Thierry Henry, Kolo Touré, David Dein, Jens Lehmann, Tony Adams, Patrick Vieira| Fierce Rivals | Chelsea, Tottenham, Man Utd, Liverpool| Other Rivals | West Ham| Finances | Okay| Estimated Value | £271M (Loan Debt: £210M)| Transfer Budget | £20,000,000| Wage Budget | £694,042 p/w| Bank Balance | £3,56M| Stadium | Ashburton Grove, London| Stadium Capacity | 60000 all seater with under-soil heating| Reserve Stadium | Underhill, London| Training Facilities | Top training facilities| Youth Facilities | Excellent youth facilities + Youth Academy| Continental Competition | European Champions Cup| Media Prediction | 4th| Squad Average Age | 24| Squad Personality | Highly Ambitious

the team details in the game is quite spot on, big credit goes to Father Senegal the Arsenal Researcher and SI.

Current Squad

Squad Number | Position | Name 1 | GK | Jens Lehmann 2 | MC | Abou Diaby 4 | MC | Francesc Fabregas 5 | DRC | Kolo Touré 6 | DC | Phillipe Senderos 7 | AMLC | Tomáš Rosický 8 | AMRL | Fredrik Ljungberg 9 | AM/FC | Júlio Baptista 10 | DLC | William Gallas 11 | AMLC, FC | Robin Van Persie 12 | D/WBR | Lauren 13 | AMRC | Aliaksandr Hleb 14 | ST | Thierry Henry (c) 15 | DM | DenÃ*lson 16 | DM | Mathieu Flamini 17 | DC, DM | Alexandre Song 19 | DM | Gilberto Silva (vc) 20 | DC | Johan Djourou 21 | GK | Mart Poom 22 | D/WBL | Gaël Clichy 24 | GK | Manuel Almunia 25 | ST | Emmanuel Adebayor 27 | D/WBR | Emmanuel Eboué 30 | ST | Jérémie Aliadière 31 | DRL | Justin Hoyte 32 | AMR, FC | Theo Walcott

With this young squad left, the challenge is clear in FM 2007. Could you be the one who gives Arsenal their League Title back? And not forgetting Champions League title, and FA Cup as well as Carling Cup title also up for grab! So, come in and discuss your managerial experience with Arsenal!

I personally would recommend playing 4-4-2, although IRL they employed the 4-1-4-1 system as of late. Best starting XI, playing 4-4-2 are:

Lehmann Eboue/Lauren – Toure – Gallas/Djourou – Clichy Hleb/Ljungberg – Gilberto/Flamini – Fabregas – Rosicky Robin Van Persie/Julio Baptista – Thierry Henry

I Would recommend signing one or two GK as backup to Jens, a DL to rotate with Clichy, one or two DC to rotate with Toure and Gallas, a MF especially the one who can play all across the midfield as a handy man. While in my opinion, attacking should be fine with RVP, Julio Baptista, Henry, Adebayor and Theo Walcott all lined up.

Possible target for signing:

GK: De Sanctis, Kameni, Stekelenburg
DL: Taye Taiwo, Leighton Baines
DC: John Heitinga, Hedwiges Maduro
MF: Wes Sneijder, Franck Ribery, Silva

that's what i've gather so far. will keep updating as we play

William Gallas is the perfect tutor for Armand Traore who will become a big player for the club in the future.

Generally pretty OK staff but I would make a few changes and try and set up a better scouting network.

thanks Cleon.

approaching start of the new season, i've bought few players

Hedwiges Maduro, AVB and Tim De Cler.

i noticed it's quite harder to get players, i had to fish out 5M for AVB. and am trying to get cover for midfield

as we speak, Kolo Toure and Johan Djourou, two main DCs for me atm out injured 3-4 weeks each. left me with Maduro and AVB, think i'm screwed...

won my first match in CL qualifying vs Zurich 5-0  not bad for experiment tactic
