As some of you already know, scouts have gone tits in my basque only save.

I have returned to the 0304 ways, but after some pondering I wanted to ask something to the zealots.

First, bear with me as I ellaborate the picture a bit:

The General Picture

Scouts' general assignements to search for basques don't work. Neither determined length ones nor undefined.

So, I was left with the media news to find new players.

As I don't think this was acceptable, I returned to my 0304 scouting network:

1.- Keep a track on all Basque teams.

2.- Buy all monday sports newspapers and scan through them for basque teams' lineups.

3.- Send a scout to watch for the players. (Go to match stats and pinpoint players to the scouts).

Issues

Now... I know this is realistic enough (even more than the general assignements), even if time consuming, but it poses a real problem.

I haven't found a player under 25 years old for quite some time now... and my defenders have a rather tasty 32.6 years old average age. :eek:

The questions

Would it be kosher if I did the same for U18 sides?

I mean, do you reckon a rather small 2nd Division B (about League 2 standard) side could be scourging the U18 league for young blood?

More issues

The real problem lays in the fact that all 2nd Division B clubs don't have any U18 to speak of... so I'm left with the ones existing at Bilbao or Sociedad.

As I've been doing it until that moment, my conscience dictates me to wait for those players to slip through until they reach other, more realistic clubs from which to jump to my team.

But I've recently purged my team from nohopers and neverbeens, so I'm left with a healthy 400k GBP balance which would allow me to attract some proper defenders to my team if I could have them scouted...

I don't know... The fact is that I wanted some discussion on a LLM issue for a change.

The way I see it, you're screwed if you don't scout the u18s.

I know I'm screwed if I don't do it (Although we're doing quite well considering the circumstancies).

What I'm trying to do is finding a realistically enough method to do so before going on a rampage scouting of the U18 sides.

Hasn't this always been a problem with Basque players, very few new young player coming through?

From my perspective, if I was pusuing a Basque only policy, your proposed policy is the only way to do it.

Just don't ask me for absolution.

Nah... there's aplenty of basque players around, Church.

FM is certainly way better than 0304 and that was good enough. :thup:

Your problem seems to be quite similar to mine.

In my game, scouts don't find players anymore. I set two of them to scout Italy and one to Central Europe, all for players over 23 years old, and in 2 years I was presented the amount of 2 (two) players.

I've experienced this too.

Just had a thought it may be linked to the scout's determination.

If he has a low determination stat, then is it possible he won't want to work as hard and therefore find as many players?

Well, you know... I'm pretty sure the scout not finding anyone out of your shortlist is a bug.

I kept sending them out during 18 months to see if it was temporary.

But let's focus on the other bit, the U18 thing.

I wouldn't question you if you did what you described, Jordi. Scouting is pathetic after a few seasons at the same club, and i find myself doing things in FM i would never even consider doing on 01/02 (scouting through pin-pointing, that is).

Regarding the scouting of U18 teams

What I find perfectly acceptable:
Send a scout out to players of U18 teams who played well in the game against your U18 team as certainly the ass.man who is managing your U18 team would have noticed that Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse of the opponents played very well against the U18 and deserved a second opinion.

With other methods of scouting U18's you run the risk that it atleast could sound a bit dodgy. Although the basque-only thing is something special I admit.

I might be lucky but so far my scouts keep on finding new players and even some youngsters here and there. Too bad that none of them wants to sign for me

But as often said: it's your game and you decide how to play it.
