Ive just took over Rangers in Hong Kong after leaving my job at Gyor in Hungary. Do people want to hear updates on how it goes? I know its a bit tenous on 1-league nations as whether its LLM or not, but to be honest they would struggle against most conference north teams!!
Not being familiar with the HK league, how strong are Rangers?
As a LLaMa it's not in the spirit to take a strng team in a single league, such as East Bengal in India, but if its one of the weakest then it's a fair LLaMa challenge.
As LFCfan says, do 3 seasons and then let us know how you got on. I'll be intersested as I have a plan to load up all the Asian leagues and embark on a continental relegation tour
When I applied for the job they were 5th out of 9! They are semi-professional, have a wage budget of £2,500 p/w (some of them are on £5/week!) and the top 3 or 4 teams are professional so I would say they are one of the weaker teams. However they are in the Asian Conference Cup, which I am guessing is the equivalent of the UEFA cup. I'm not quite sure how they managed to qualify for this though, as they didnt finish in the top 3 in the previous season, or win the FA cup. Anyone know the rules for HK? Its a strange league, certainly with only 16 league games a season, but 3 domestic cup competitions.
The rules should be in there. On the screen of your League table go to the drop down menu. You should find the 'league rules' there. Let us know what it tells you.
Well, according to the AFC's website, (work is very demanding today), the league champions and national cup winners should enter the AFC cup. Sun Hei won the league and someone else won the FA cup. However, I was the holders of one of the other domestic cup competitions - the senior challenge cup I think it was called. So this might be a bug, I will check it out when I get home.
Incidentally, it seems like there is no way of getting a HK team into the Asian Champions League this is ring-fenced for the top Asian countries, so if FM is accurate, then for the leagues in the game:
China, S Korea, Indonesia are in the ACL
India, Malaysia, Singapore and HK are in the AFC Cup.
However, there is another thread on here where someone took an Indian team to the ACL final, which would seem impossible if the game is accurate. Some further playing is needed I think...
Ok, the league winners have definitely qualified. But the FA cup winners have not. Would you believe there is an AFC Cup qualifier 'competition' in which Rangers beat South China. But how these two ended up here I'm not sure. I think i will wait til the end of the season (not long to go) and see what happens then.
Well after all that, my stay at Rangers lasted exactly three months. The offer from Newcastle Jets in the new A-League was just too good to turn down. So, just about to start my third season, and its my 4th job in 3 continents! By they time I get round to updates, expect me to be on job 6 or 7...
