SEASON 2005/6 - CASTILLO DEL ROMERAL - SPAIN 2°B Group 1

Although the Board and the fans kept their expectations low begging me to help them to avoid relegation, I was confident we could make the playoffs. Of course I should bring at least 1 GK, 1 DC, 1MC and 1 S.

But press predictions were the same as previous year (serious candidates for relegation) and the reputation of Castillo's manager (hey! that's me AGAIN!) was obscure. So, once again, I was unable to bring quality to the team.

Just like last year, we mixed wins and losses, achievieng an "honorable?" 10th place, 14 points short from playoffs.

W 17 - D 7 - L 14 - F 45 - A 42 - PTS 58
Spanish Cup - Won over Aurrerá (Agg 6-3) and lost at home to Málaga (1st div)0-1.

Actually, one game before end of season, I received an offer from LLeida who had been relegated the year before from 2nd Division and will finish 5th this season. And I gotta say that the training ground, budget and quality of the players was MUCH bigger than Castillo's.

So, with great sorrow I abandonned the paradisiac beaches and flew coast-to-coast to establish in Cataluña.

SEASON 2006/7 - U.E. Lleida S.A.D. - SPAIN 2°B Group 2

Although we had money for buying players, I only brougth some free transfers. On the contrary, we were over our salary budget.

With 25/26 players (only 22 can play in the league) I felt a serious candidate for playoffs. However, the board only asked me to achieve a decent league position.

And I was right with my predictions, as we never drop the pace, scoring 82 goals in 38 games with 41 scored by our new star, a young lad that had come from the club's youth academy a couple of years ago.

Off course this is LLM and things can't be easy. This guy was on his last year of contract and we were unable to offer him a decent salary. So I sold him during mid-season to Zaragoza, but ensuring I'll count with him until the last game.

For those of you that don't know the Spanish League, you gotta know that the 2nd B Division is composed of 4 groups. Top for on each group qualify for playoffs with NO direct promotion.

So we had to beat to teams in semis and final to get the promotion.

In semis we faced Castellon, beating them at home 3-1 and away 1-0.

In the Finals we matches against Talavera. We won at their home 2-1 with tenths of shots on and off target.

So party was ready to blow in Lerida for the final match of the year. Started 0-1 but I was confident we'll finally beat them (we had lost only 2 games out of 41 in the league!!!!). Even with that result, we'll get promoted, because of the away goals.

In the 25th minute our star striker scored the equalizer. But 3 minutes later, Talavera scored de 1-2, leaving everything even.

End of First Half 1-2.

We keep generating chances, but couldn't score.

End of Second Half 1-2.

****! all the year sweeping rivals and we won't get promoted?

End of Extra time 1-2.

CAN'T BELIEVE IT. Going into the penalty lottery!!! After loosing only 3 games out of 46????

And we missed EACH AND EVERY PENALTY. So we'll have to play another year in 2nd B.

W 29 - D 7 - L 2 - F 82 - A 23 - PTS 94 (94 POINTS!!!!)
Spanish Cup - Beat Langreo (agg 7-1), Albacete (1st Div) 4-1, and lost in Penalties (!!!!)at Mallorca (2nd Div Champs).

I was so mad at this unfair rules, that I decided to play in Italy C2B!!!!

Back from vacations, I applied for an Italian club.

While waiting for an answer, I did my job and coached Lleida trough the friendlies arranged by my assistant during my absence (all of them against much better teams. Ain't my Assistant a complete stupid!!!???).

And surprisingly, the team was much better than last year, even without the "star striker".

So, although I-cant-remember-the-team's-name offered me the move to Italy, I decided it to give Lleida another try and stayed another year in Spain.

Off Topic: As you can imagine I'm not playing a full season in less than 30 minutes. I'm currently finishing the 2012/13 Season. I'm translating the story from a Spanish forum

SEASON 2007/8 - U.E. Lleida S.A.D. - SPAIN 2°B Group 2

O.K., So I was facing another exhausting season, full of matches, only to come up to 4 FXXXing games.

As I said, although we had lost our "jewel", we could replace him with another guy borned in Lleida's youth academy, who was sat on the bench for the last 3 seasons.

With a couple of free transfers, we formed a strong team and won the title again.

W 28 - D 4 - L 6 - F 83 - A 19 - PTS 88
Spanish Cup - Beat Motril (agg 3-0), Valladolid (1st Div) 1-0, Valencia (1st Div) 3-1, and lost to Málaga, of course, also 1st Div (will we ever be lucky in the cup pairings?) (agg 4-1).

Once again, we should face playoffs. Only difference with last season was that the we had struggled in the last league games.

So, we faced Alicante at home and drew 2-2. Awful score that forced us to win at Alicante's Stadium to avoid another disaster.

Very tough match at Alicante, with 13 ocassions for them, against 10 Lleida shots. But in the 55 minute, we could score. And after 40 minutes of suffering, we were, once again, in the playoff final (after 2 forgettable games). Playoffs suck arse!

Final games were against Las Palmas, once a 1st Div team, and rival to Castillo (btw, this season Castillo couldn't avoid relegation).

First match, away, we had a decent performance and won 2-1.

I was experiencing a sort of deja-vu. Again, facing the final match of the season at home with a 2-1 victory in the first match and...

Las Palmas were the closer to a Hurricane I've ever saw. They stepped over our face from minute 1. They shot at goal three times more than Lleida.

However (and thanks God...will, our 'keeper), they missed each and every chance. Minute 59, penalty for Las Palmas... missed! And they kept coming and coming. And finally scored in the 90th minute. It looks like I'm exagerating, but this is exactly what happened. Of course, as I said this is LLM, so the referee gave 4 minutes of injury time. And in the 93rd minute the Las Palmas striker had a one-on-one ocassion... and blew it again.

So, in an absoultely UNFAIR way, we made it. After 4 long years I could finally leave one of the toughest divisions of world soccer (88 teams!) behind.

SEASON 2008/9 - U.E. Lleida S.A.D. - SPAIN 2°

First experience in 2nd division and we're candidates to relegation.

I spent more than 1.000.000 US Dollars in a spanish striker who paid back the money with some goals. We were a compact team, who fought every match and managed to finish the season one step over midtable, although far from direct promotion (top 3 get promoted to 1st division, no playoffs).

A good performance for an unexperienced team. Probably next year we could try a shot at promotion.

W 18 - D 11 - L 13 - F 58 - A 42 - PTS 65 - POS 9° 11 points short of promotion.
Spanish Cup: Beat Mar Menor (agg 8-0), lost to Tenerife (1st Div) 0-3
