IMHO several issues have now shown up in FM2005 which at LLM makes the idea of a career limited to say the least.
I can say this as I have played LLM with nearly every release of CM and have yet found any to match CM01/02 for game play and fun.
Now we all know that by choosing LLM we are faced with (in some cases) small clubs, lack of staff and little or no money. This has not been an issue in the past due to players not asking for huge wages and or requests that the club cannot even come close to matching.
This is not good for anyone wanting to take their club beyond their current situation, as this is what happens.
Players wont sign, end up losing them at contracts end only to find them playing for another club for less wages
2ndly this can really stuff a club up when you have 6 - 10 players all doing same thing, having said this I have managed to get one or two to re-sign but only when they have been out of contract. I would have thought a player that had been with the club for years would 1stly stay loyal and would also understand clubs $$$$ situstaion.
3rdly and what affects us as LLM is that we don't have the money to replace players leaving and or the wages to even sign those on free, hence your small squad becomes even smaller. Now I hear you all saying to me, what about loans, that is good if you can get anyone to come to your club!
4th, Injuries (still an issue in patched game) I regulary have 4-5 players out injuried and some out for months, again your small availabilty ot players becomes even smaller!
Last but not least, remember the days of cm01/02 when you had youngsters coming up through the ranks at the start of every new season, in some casses 5-6 new players, well I have experinced so far 1-2 players if your lucky!
So in conclusion, you see that with all these new issues in FM2005, LLM if not playable long term has if not anything made it nearly impossible to keep a side, field that side and or be successful. These are just my findings please feel free to comment.
Do you mean a career at a single club? I'm having a decent career, but I have switched jobs. All the clubs I've been at have been small clubs that would expect to lose their top players, if I'm honest. I don't like it, but that's the way the game works nowadays.
I know what you mean about the contract renewals, but players have left for "worse" clubs and lower wages in other versions of CM, so that one isn't peculiar to FM IMO.
Re: injuries - I think you're unlucky there. I've had reasonable luck until my current season, when the pressure of playing in the UEFA cup groups has meant my players have played more games than they're used to - again doesn't seem unrealistic to me.
I use LLM to start a game and when a chance comes up to go to the top team or a team in a higher division I take it. Personal I think this is the way to play the game. If you limit yourself to LLM your not experiencing the point of the game which is to become a world class manager and to win.
Just my point of view Im sure some people would disagree with this
Abramovic - LLM isn't just a starting point, it's a way of playing the game. We start at the bottom, play according to the guidelines, and try to get as high as possible. I'm currently with Norwich in the EPL and UEFA cup for example, but I still play the game to the guidelines and I'm still a LLaMa. Several LLaMas have won the World Cup, which I think is World Class management

I reckon FM is almost as addictive as 0102 if you stick to it.... note almost. Not quite there, but closer than every other version since.

I beg to differ, players in all versions were always asking for ridiculous payrises. And even if it's annoying, it's only realistic, as LL teams' rosters seem to change a lot season after season... Players do leave their clubs.

Valid, who hasn't missed out on a bright young free prospect who's preferred to sign for a non-league club on 10% of the money you offered him?

Not wrong there, but even IRL, players don't seem to care all that much. Loyalty can be a costly virtue to be having these days.

To be honest, i've never had more than 3 youngsters promoted to my reserves per season, and it usually was a surprise when even a single player would be shown up. Never relied on youth academy on 0102, but maybe other people have luckier in their saves?
Other than that, i've noticed i don't tend to stick at the same club for too long anymore. LLM has become a bit more frustrating on FM, that's true, but it's no where near unplayable... as of yet.

I've not done too badly out of my Academy up to now (2017-18). Had 18 promoted one year, but I think that was a minor bug in 5.0.3 It's certainly been no worse to me than 01-02, and I regularly get a half dozen or more promoted.
Having never played 01/02 although I will try it soon I cant comment on the differences, however times have moved on since then.
How many testimonials these days? On the lower wages at a crappier club thing goes, players do sometimes make a side step or downstep for various reasons e.g., moving area cos of the missus!, lack of motivation, think your crap etc., It is anoying but I think it is fairly realistic.
IRL I left a managers job in the UK to come to Helsinki for the girlfriend. Washed dishes at first, now I am a waiter ( woo-hoo ) Point being people move/leave for lots of reasons.
I've had anywhere between 7 and 0 youth team players coming through the ranks. It is now much more dependent on the quality of your facilities but this is as it should be.
Personally I think FM is the best version of the game since 01/02 and the more I play it the more I am coming to think it may be better.
Yes it has got harder on the financial side of things but it has for small clubs IRL. If the game didn't reflect this I think we would all be disappointed.

Sorry Julian, the part you quoted was referring to 0102 only.
Things are definitely better on FM, youth-wise :bigalp:
