My after patch LLM restart is well underway. After taking over the Maidenhead squad I managed, over three seasons, to make the playoff in season 1 (semi-final loss) miss out by two points in season 2 and a playoff final loss in season 3. A struggling (finished very poorly in L2 the previous season) Port Vale offered me the opportunity to take their squad, reduce the budget and spend no transfer money. So I'm LLM finished with this career - my Valiants will be topping the EPL table in no time, I'm certain.
I proudly left Maidenhead out of the red and with a squad that will guarentee them mid-table performance if they don't dismantle it.
You're allowed to continue with updates after moving clubs - the interest generally comes in seeing where people get themselves to around their own individual worlds... so by all means keep updating...
Well then, another update. Port Vale finished an easy 2nd in L2 my first full season and the profits therein led to the purchase of my first established player to anchor the weak defence as well as the purchase of three youth keepers of various scouting acclaim - two have turned out to be alright at the midway point through my second full season with the Valiants. 4.5 seasons in and things are going well, although I could hope for a larger wage budget (whom among us doesn't hope for this?)
Checking in on my beloved and beleaguered Maidenhead, they continue to languish just out of the playoffs prompting me to wonder if perhaps a return may someday be warranted. Loyalty to the chairman that gave you your first opportunity should be acknowledged, but I have MUCH too much ambition right now. Maybe a return to Berkshire in my dotage. Apparantly the squad I left behind was insufficient for my replacement to attain promotion - he should have maintained my formations as well as I see he is playing my lads out of position and with much more flair in mind than they are capable of.
After playing WHU for decades in previous versions, I must admit this is very fun - the constant struggle to maintain ANYTHING is much more taxing than I might have thought. The scouting seems a bit more consistent in 5.0.3 (or maybe it's my imagination), so that has helped.
Well, if WHU offer me the job, I have to take it, don't I. Hammer boy and man here, after all, but it would be the death of a fine career - (actually WHU were promoted 05-06 in my game and stayed up).
Finishing my 5th season (2nd full with Port Vale) I am proud to say that while maintaining my inherited squad (8 of my starting 11 were here when I took over) and adding a couple of loans, PVFC finished top of the L1 table with 107 points (only 4 losses on the season). I'm fiercely proud of the lads and look forward to our first season in the ECS. In celebration, I hired a new scout that I will be sending across the channel to France which I decided was perfectly fair for an ECS club. Will the first non-UK player be arriving this season? Only time will tell, but I still have precious little by way of transfer or wage budget so maybe an established midfielder to plug a weak spot in the middle will be the priority. My shortlist is tired and worn out - we need some flair.
Here's to staying alive in the ECS (or maybe taking that next big job).
This has been my most fun career in FM/CM and I started playing in CM3 - glad I decided to do this!
