Default Italian bloke's tale

Set up a game with Italy, England and Spain running under a large DB. I am currently starting my fourth season, and will post the first three ones shortly.

Started as an unemployed italian (as the title might suggest) bloke and got offered the Ivrea job, in Serie C2A. So there we went.

2004/2005 - Ivrea - Italian Serie C2A

Board and fans expected me to get a safe mid-table finish, and honestly that was the best we could aim for. With a backroom staff of 28 guys, and wages 30k euros above our 80k/month budget, I prefered not to sign anyone.

Year proved to be tough on financial side, as we finished it 900k in the red, even after the board injected some 750k throughout the season. On the field, an irregular season saw us finish 11th, two points clear of playout zone.

Serie C2A: Pld 34 Won 9 Drn 14 Lst 11 For 36 Ag 36 G.D. 0 Pts 41.
Serie C Cup: 4th placed in Group B, with 1 win and 3 defeats.

In the start of the new season, I'm approached by newly promoted C2C side Cosenza 1914. Easily taken by the perspective of managing a club with a realistic wage budget, I set sail.

2005/2006 - Cosenza 1914 - Italian Serie C2C

The team had only 11 players when I arrived, but my intention was to manage to stay clear of relegation and under wage budget, which had a total value of 18k euros. Board and fans expected safe mid-table, but I thought that was a little too much given the lack of squad depth we faced.

The signing of seven players for free and the loaning of three other guys saw us improve depth, but not quality. We struggled through the whole season to try and get out of playout zone, but efforts were useless, as we finished 14th. Managed to beat Manfredonia 3-2 on aggregate and stayed up for another season.

Serie C2C: Pld 34 Won 9 Drn 11 Lst 14 For 30 Ag 34 G.D. -4 Pts 38.

Managed to stay under budget all season, which lead the club to a very good 400k euros balance in the end of the season. Although board and fans wanted mid-table, they were happy with performance.

2006/2007 - Cosenza 1914 - Italian Serie C2C

The rising in wage budget to 21k euros/month gave us the maneuvre space to bring in six players on bosmans and eight more on free transfers along the season. Although most were only promising, a couple did a good difference to the team.

Board and fans expected me to stay clear of relegation this time, and that's what we easily achieved. The overall ability of the team had clearly improved since last season, as we managed to stay in mid-table for the whole season. A good form run in the last games saw us challenging for a play-off spot, which unfortunately but fairly enough we never got.

Serie C2C: Pld 34 Won 10 Drn 17 Lst 7 For 37 Ag 31 G.D. +6 Pts 47.
Serie C Cup: Lost 7-0 aggregate to Padova (C1A) in 2nd Round.

Still under budget, our finances are very well, thanks. Having got a large amount of money this season also, we now have the comfortable amount of 1.1 million euros in the bank. Board and fans think I'm the best thing since sliced bread, and this season I rejected first Serie C1 job offer, from former Serie B team Cesena . Their financial situation was a scandal, though :thdn:.

2007/2008 - Cosenza 1914 - Italian Serie C2C

Okay. As season started, the board rewarded my efforts on the financial field of Cosenza by increasing the transfer budget to 190k euros and the wage budget to 39k euros/month. That almost doubled our total budget, so I tried and signed nothing less than 19 free players (all under 20) and one bosman defender. All this still left our wage budget at 31k euros/month, which was completely safe.

While the board wanted us to achieve safe mid-table finish, supporters expected a respectable position. I was more inclined to agree with the board, then. On the field, we started playing a very young team, but kids did very well, and we never left the first five spots, in which we danced along with some other teams. At the end, we were placed 4th, which meant we would have to actualy win both Play-Off Semi and Final clashes. Semi-final saw us get two easy victories against Castelnuovo, beating them 2-0 home and 4-1 away.

In the final, we met Acireale, the only team that had been favourites against me on the bookies. A 2-3 defeat away in the first leg saw our team a little bit scared. In the second leg, we managed to score 1-0 in the beginning, and it stayed like this until 89 mins, when I was already thinking how to score another goal in extra-time. Then, our left winger, who was later chosen Serie C2C Player of the Season, scored from a 40 yard strike. Yes, we got promoted to Serie C1!! And Acireale got the right to play C2 one more year. [insert evil laugh here]

Serie C2C: Pld 34 Won 15 Drn 13 Lst 6 For 54 Ag 26 G.D. +28 Pts 58
Serie C Cup: Got last place in Group O, with 1 draw and 3 defeats.

Finances are over the moon. Only in those two home games in Play-Offs, we got 500k from gate receipts. By the end of the season, we have won 1.1 million euros this season, which leads us to a bank balance of almost 2.5 million euros. They should be useful now in Serie C1.
