Season 2008/2009 - Cosenza 1914 - Italian Serie C1B

Both board and fans expected a brave fight to stay up, and so did I. Wage budget was increased to 80k euros/month, and tranfer kitty was now a beautiful 375k euros. During pre-season we hired two free players, both aged 17. A midfielder who became a first team regular and a promising striker.

Season start was as fantastic as unexpected, with Cosenza having 8 victories out of the first 8 games. I was extremely surprised with that, but also happy, of course. Surely that form was not forever, and we started losing and drawing some games, also. That took us to a finish in 4th place. Sambenedettese beat us in Play-Off Semis after a 3-3 aggregate result, due to their higher league record.

This season exposed which is definetly our team's weakest point: the attack (or the lack of it). My midfielders scored more often than my strikers. On financial side, we stayed all the year wasting less than 40k euros/month. That, with the increase in average attendance, gave us a profit around 2.5 million euros this season, leaving our balance near the 5 million mark. A very good arrival to Serie C1, right right??

Serie C1B: Pld 34 Won 14 Drn 13 Lst 7 For 41 Ag 30 G.D. +11 Pts 55.
Serie C Cup: Lost 2-1 aggregate to Igea Virtus in 1st round.

Oh, forgot to mention in the last post:

My star D/DM L was chosen Serie C1B Player of The Season.

And our promising AM LC got a couple of games for Italy U-19, and a lot of teams wanting to buy him.

Just the 27826th guy trying to wind us up. And the 27826th guy to fail in that.

Back on topic...

Season 2009/2010 - Cosenza 1914 - Serie C1B

A very strange season. While fans wanted mid-table, board expected to fight bravely against relegation, giving me 950k euros for transfers and 150k/month for salaries:eek:. The arrival of a good young striker and a promising attacking midfielder made me think our team was capable of challenging the big guns, since we did so well last season. I was wrong.

We started badly, really fighting against relegation. Stayed in the Play-Out zone for the first rounds. Then we improved, which saw us rise towards mid-table, but never managing to see a Play-Off spot in the horizon. A 11th placed finish was just another prove of our mediocrity. Team's worst zone was again the attack, in where players must be in some kind of "Who Loses More Chances" competition.

Scouting is proving to be quite useless. Maybe because of team's reputation, which is still local, our scouts never find players older than 21. Not counting the first two seasons in Cosenza, when squad was very weak, they never found someone to arrive and take a first-team spot. Finances continue to be good. We spent around 50k/month on wages, and now got a little more than 6.3 million euros:thup:.

Serie C1B: Pld 34 Won 8 Drn 14 Lst 12 For 31 Ag 36 G.D. -5 Pts 38.
Serie C Cup: Lost 3-0 aggregate to Sambenedettese () in Quarter Final.
