So I've finally downloaded the patch and am starting a new campaign with East Stirlingshire.
I'll abide by the rule of posting after 3 seasons but I just wanted to set the scene as I'm approaching my career in a slightly puritannical manner.
I first brought this up a week ago and I'll quote the post:
Quote:
My idea is to play it realistically by retaining the squad I'm presented with and slowly adding to it only with kids found by my scout(s), but not in bulk numbers, staying within the wage budget.
Although at the beginning only 4 players get more than the RL £10 per week unfortunately you can't offer less than £35 for a new contract but I'm trying to stick to this. This puts me way way below my wage limit of £1200 per week although that's blown away by the staff wages [and the ground maintenance is astronomical].
Stupidly the scout I inherited is on £130 pw until 2009  and all staff demand in the region of 14x the salary of the players.
I got two young lassies in to rub down the boys' legs in lieu of high wages and I've hired two scouts to scour - er, Scotland. For loans I'm not looking outside the home county - i.e. the two neighbouring league clubs' reserves and youths.
In pre-season I sold off three players and loaned one out to bring me a transfer budget of £500 and I got in four players one one-year contracts and three loanees. That leaves the great bulk of the squad the ones I've inherited and oh boy are they poor
My intention is to work within these limitations to see how far my tactical nous can enable the players to play above themselves.
If pre-season is a guide it'll be some task - the only game I won was against Fort William - take a look at the RL Highland League table to see how hilarious they are. I did get the best line of commentary ever though: you have to know that Fort William is nestled at the foot of Ben Nevis to appreciate the line when I scored the second goal:
Quote:
Fort William have a mountain to climb
Absolute class.
So I should be able to focus on the league from the outset given my first cup match is away to Gretna who wasted no time in spending £400,000 to bring in a goalkeeper from the English Premiership and my personal ambition is to win a match. Indeed my original thread raised the query - has anyone ever been sacked by The Shire? By being restrained financially and avoiding ultimatums I plan to see just how badly I can do and still keep my job.
So my original challenge is still up for grabs; here is my gauntlet - I challenge anyone to get sacked by The Shire by fair means before I do
[boring details - normal db, all Scot and Eng leagues loaded, even tho' Eng irrelevant really]
Best of luck, but I would question how realistic it is to keep the squad that you inherit. Most new managers bring a number of new players to their club and clear out the deadwood.
However, I would accept that some of us here take it to extremes and sign everything that moves.

Yeh, I'm not saying there won't be any movement - I've brought in a few already as I say, but I'm trying to think as a real cr4p manager rather than an FM manager.
