The board that is offering you the job will give you a rough idea of what to expect if you accept their offer. Upon accepting their offer they will open their books and give you the correct figures to work with. I don't think (willing to be corrected) you can see the finances until you ARE the manager.

when you are offered a job you are NOT told the wage budget.

You ARE told what the current wage bill stands at, and whether it is above or below the wage budget, but your are not given a specifc figure for the wage budget.

once (if) you accept the offer and join the club, you have access to all details, financial or otherwise.

Which makes absolutely sense. Why would any club give away details about their financial situation to a guy who is not a member of the staff (yet).

That's right, yo ucan't see the exact figures but the board give a good idea.

However IIRC some chairman are pretty sly and the actual figures won't tally with their promises!

 I didn't know that... I'm one of the sentimental, faithful types who doesn't jump ship when a bigger club comes calling, so I've never actually found out if the wage figures tally up or not.

Erm... I actually believe that this 'difference' in the alledgted figures and the ones you find is due to the fact that the new club must 'buy you out' of your last club.

So, if your contract is runninng and is up to some more time, it's sure going to diminish the transfer money and the wage budget.
