In FM08, I've been playing as Benfica. I thought all was well, having just won the Portuguese Bwin Liga and UEFA Cup at the end of the 2009 season. I've been turning a profit, with over £25m in the bank by the end of the season.
And then the nightmare started: my success attracted interest in my players from a whole host of clubs, and my board have been absolute idiots. They accepted bids for Nelson, Breno, Vagner Love & Stancu for a combined total of £45m and didn't give me any money to replace them!!! To make things worse, I also lost Petit and Emerson on the bosman ruling (neither would sign a new contract), Nuno Gomes retired at 32, at the same time as Leo and Rui Costa; and finally the board accepted bids for Buonanotte and Quim on the last day of the transfer window !!!!
They gave me £12m to spend which allowed me to sign Pazzini and a couple of youngsters, but have now set me the challenge of winning the champions league with a depleted squad.
Needless to say, I'm not impressed! With 11 first team squad players out, and 1 in, I can barely make up a substitutes bench without filling it with 16 year olds.
For the board to think that £45 million combined for 4 players is too much to refuse for a club of Benfica's status shows that there is a major flaw within the system. If I was you I would report this to the bugs forum becuase that's ridiculous(sp)
Oh yes they can, the worst one for me was £17m bid from Palermo for Obafemi Martins which I declined, 2 weeks later the board accepted a £12m bid from Milan. What the hell is the point in that!!!!!
The first was Nelson for £6.5m, followed by Breno for £13m, Stancu £9m and Vagner Love £17.5m. Then on the last day of the transfer window Quim left for £2m and Buonanotte for £5m. Its a tad annoying but I can accept it because clubs like Benfica are typically selling clubs to the bigger leagues anyway.
I've had 3 other games too, with LA Galaxy, Fiorentina and Roma, and it hasn't happened at any of them, so I'll take it as a one off.
If it does happen again I'll probably report it.
Has anyone else had a really bad transfer window (not necessarily with the board accepting bids)?

In my first season as Bayern I exceeded expaectations and won everything (except Uefa Cup). Come the end of the season the big teams were after my star players and most of them wanted to go for better quality leagues.
Lucio went to Inter for £9m, Ribery to Inter £18.5m, Podolski to At Madrid £14m and Toni to Barca £7.5m. The only one who showed any loyalty was Lahm who I declared as unavailable and he wasn't interested in Milan. The board didn't sell any of mine, I accepted because the offers were just too good to refuse.
The back bone of my team had disappeared but TBH the board gave me every penny to spend so I brought in about 13 youth players and a few under 24's to fill the gaps with loads of money to spare.

Yes, plenty of times but they are usually my own fault. I like to sell my players when they reach 27 or 28 at the most because this is when you get the most money for them. However, the problem usually arises when I need the money from the sale of my best current striker (or other position) to fund the purchase of the new younger one.
So, I check that I can do a deal for the younger one and make an offer. They accept so I immediately offer the striker to other clubs. I then sell the striker and go back to the club that accepted the bid the first time around. They of course reject this bid and want more (greedy @@@@@@@@ !!!). So I'm left with a hole in a position because I've been gazumped. With the bigger teams, this happens less though. You would think I would learn but I do this time and time again. It's my age.

tbh I don't really see how any of these offers were too good to refuse. Perhaps Toni is getting older, so it wasn't a bad idea to cash in,but you surely would have gotten more for Ribery and Podolski in FM's inflated transfer system?!
However if this allowed you to maintain your squads strength and build for the future, then fair enough I suppose.
