If you ever watch a whole match, which I dont often do, you might of noticed that if the players are playing at a real life speed, then the clock is ticking about 3 times faster than "real time" and vise-versa if you watch a match so that one second "game time" is the same as one second in "real time", then the players move at about one third the speed of a real life player.
Yet you still get games with a score of 4-3, and games have a similar amount of shots on target etc etc as they would in real life, even though they only have the equivalent of 30 "real time" minutes in which to do so.
My first CM/FM experience was FM05 (I was a late bloomer) and I started watching the matches from start to finish.
Only after getting FM07 and joining the forums did I realize I was mad...
Who cares what speed the players move at?
Players are bought and sold - Tactics are set - Matches get played - Results are achieved - Trophies are won and lost.
I heard about this guy who was manager of one club and after 4 seasons of mid table finishes and no cups....he finally got to the F.A. Cup final...where, he put on his best suit and watched the game in real time....and lost 2-1.
