The thing is that I've been paying attention to the news items and responded when needed, but the registration just isn't working. The problem isn't people missing the news item. At least not in all cases.

I'd rather have the silence! Denying the issue is even worst.
Even if you attend news item players will still become unregistered, at least in B team.
SI has now disapointed me completly.
Additionally I thought the rules were that players under 23 could be played in the first team if you were short, through injuries etc, but it appears that they can only be played if they are in the youth squad and not the reserve squad.
Is this how it should be?
If so it misled me as I expected any player under 23 in my B team to be available for the first team as cover so I didn't register good under 23s in my first team squad on this basis.

Sorry but that is a ridiculous thing to say. The registration problem is a SI fault and should not be part of the game and/or a burden on the game player. Getting shot in a FPS is part of the game and should be included.
Miles your response to this problem is quite shocking to be honest. Most of SI's attitude to peoples probelms or 'moans' as they are now known is shocking actually. All we get is 'we're working hard' or 'put up with it and it will all be okay when we release a new patch'.
Fact is a broken game whether it is broken to one user or all should not be released. Skip FM 2008 and bring out a 100% competent FM 2009.
There’s also the issue of b-teams unregistering even when you do confirm the squad numbers. There was a go on holiday work around for this which has only worked once for me.
So disappointing that all this won’t apparently be fixed now until the end of February. It was brought to SI’s attention as a bug before 8.01...
