Yes, I am a complete noob when it comes to computers

I've downloaded the Black_In2 skin and it is saved as Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2008\skins\black_in2

I then go to preferences in Footy Manager 08 and go to Display and Sound settings.

I then click on the arrow where it says Skin: FM 2008.

Shouldn't I be able to select my new skin?

What am I doing wrong?

have you saved it in your my documents sports interactive folder??

CUsers\shefki\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2008\skins

You haven't accidentally created two black_in2 fodlers have you? (i.e. Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2008\skins\black_in2\black_in2)

Also, make sure 'use skin cache' is unticked whenever you make any additions\changes to custom graphics.
