Lopsided tactics... this is why Tottenham are struggling to clinch a UEFA spot this season. |
Or alternativley, why Spurs have won every game in the UEFA Cup, reached the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup, the Semi Finals of the League Cup and are currently 6th in the Premiership.
Match of the Day 2 showed the benefits of the tactic very, very well on Sunday, after the Reading game - showing how Lennon and Malbranque complemented each other, caused real problems for the defenders, and, ultimatley, both created good chances for a wasteful Defoe.
As for FM - I would be tempted to play;
MR------MC---MC---MC (SArrow to left wing)
That should keep three in the centre of the park, albeit with one drifting slightly to the left, with a natural winger as your out ball down the right.
You'd then swap the wing side every so often (Or tell Lennon and Malbranque to swap positions).
I'd also be tempted to give the Left Fullback a farrow to DML, but with fairly defensive instructions, so that he comes to cover any break by the opposition, but doesent roam too far forward (which would push you into 3-5-2 terroitry)
