Hi. I've decided to play as Walsall in L2. So I've got my squad so I'm reasonably happy with it. Lack a proper 6'4" target man though, and a DMC. But no more money for wages.
Given the lack of a decent DMC, I'm playing straightforwards 4-4-2 with single farrows on the wingers.
My defense is at 7-8, as they're not the quickest.
For my basic tactic I have 11 tempo; 13 passing. Mentality, closing down, tackling is all done individually, along wwfan's lines. My stronger striker (Carl Asaba or Cederqvist) is to hold up the ball with the faster one to run off him. But I'm being overrun in my first few games, home and away, against teams the odds say I should be beating. Can't get the ball; conceding far too much territory and, ultimately, goals.
So where am I going wrong?? All bright ideas welcome.
also a TM doesn't need to be 6'4 height is irrelavant and only comsemtic jumping is the stat which you should look for becuase jumping in the game isn't how high a player can jump its the heighest height he can reach with his head
Walsall are crap mate, that won't help. I've spent most of the second half of the season watching Final Score with my hands over my eyes. Quite how we're still in the promotion places escapes me...
Something more constructive?
The problem with L2 is the lack of quality. While it's good news in some ways (take Walsall's real life lack of form in early 2007 and not getting punished for it) in others it can be a nightmare. Performances from week-to-week can vascilate wildly, odds seem to mean sweet FA and tactics can fall apart for no reason whatsoever.
That's why you need a tactic which does the basics very well and prays for the Gods to smile on you. wwfan's approach is a sensible one to take. Have you downloaded his tactic set and given them a look over and see what you can use from his systems in your own?
Out of interest, is Ishmel Demontengnac any good in 7.0.2? Haven't played with Walsall since 7.0.0, and even then only briefly. They're quite annoying...
Thanks. I haven't downloaded anyone's tactics: it's just a b@stardised hotch-potch of my own. So I'll have a look at wwfan's.
Incidentally is he Wolves  or Wycombe??
Demontagnac is not as good as in earlier versions (or on FM06, where he was excellent for LLM). I've brought in Lewwis Spence on loan (very good) and Nicky Rizzo from MK Dons for my ML.
I'm going to go and see them tomorrow, so hopefully they can do something totally shocking and string a couple of wins together.
I would suggest downloading the TT&F sets. They can teach you a lot about how other people set up their players. Sometimes you go "of course!" and put it in straight away, something may fundamentally screw up your system. Either way, never hurts to experiment and really helps if you're stuck for ideas - I regularly am.
I am playing the WORST team in England atm; The Fish/Fisher, and I am on top in ECS, unbeatin in 15 W15-D1-L0, 41-12 Goals) games, so I cant say I have any problems with Lower Leagues. And yes, I play a flat 442 with short farrows on wingers, no targetmen up front, both are small but have decent pace & acc.
Heres my 1st tips: Passing 1, tempo 1(!!!)
Hope it helps. Will make a thread about my 'Fishy' campaign as soon as I am sure it works in the next league (Conference). As for now, I am having a real stormer in the English Conference South. I was tipped 22nd place, but I am cruising on top, even being able to send out my 'reserve' squad to win the easy home matches.
