I am trying to construct a workable and consistent tactics system. I have been using, as my guide, only the manual and MV's hints and tips for FM07. I have found that with only two or three differences, that both of these are virtually the same as for FM06!
I am finding it rather difficult to find a starting reference for the team instructions. I have not got any problems with the individual instructions. It seems to me that no matter how I go about it, it would appear to be just guess work, in finding a workable tactic.
Is the only way to make a decent tactic is to go into the editor and/or have available some other outside agency, therefore making a bonafide tactic not possible? I don't want to know how to if this is the case. I shall carry on using my own player instructions and keep making poor team instructions. I do not want to copy other peoples tactics, although of late, I have found that Creativo 1.3 and Diaby's LL tactics seem to hold up quite well. Kind regards.

The stages I use are as follows:
One: set up set piece instructions for the default shape/players. Save.
Two: Decide upon a home and away mentality framework. It doesn't have to be RoO, RoT, Slider Apathy or Global, just something you are comfortable with and would seem logical for the quality of the team re the quality of the division. Hence, if you are Man Utd in Premiership home would be very attacking, away high defensive-low attacking. Watford would need something different. Save. You now have two defaults.
Three: With each default set up forward runs relating to the offensive/defensive strategy. For example, if you want a home tactic that is cautious defensively then no FWRs for FBs. An attacking version would have them bombing forward at all times. I would create an Aggressive, Possession and Cautious version of each framework. Save so you now have six tactics.
Four: Set up width, passing, d-line, tackling, marking in relation to each other and the mentality framework. For example, if you have a low mentality framework you need a lower d-line and longer passing, tight marking and heavier tackling as you need to be focused on stopping attacks and countering. I link width to the passing style of the MCs but it is not neccesary if you don't want to. A rule of thumb is defenders direct. MCs mixed, attackers shorter.
Five: Set individual instructions relating to the player most likely to play in that position. I had a winger who could dribble and shoot but not cross or pass so I gave him selfish instructions i.e. RWB often, cross rarely, TTB rarely. He scored 40 goals in two seasons.
Six: Make two pre-season tactics with everybody on light tackling.
Seven: Decide whether you want to use TMs, PMs, counter-attacking or not. Change instructions to suit.
Eight: You are ready to roll.

Many thanks wwfan for your swift response. I have handwritten down all of your advice. I shall now start over and begin a new game when I have made my "conquer the world" super tactic.
Thanks in advance also to anyone else who may be able to assist me. The more information, the better! Kindest of regards.
